i had the exact same problem, i ended up buyin a powered usb hub, but when i plugged it in, it worked fine without being powered ??? so it worked just from bus power. wierd. try a different usb extension.
hope that helps.

Just installed my Lilliput TS, and have more than a few problems, but enough personal information....
I have my Lilliput in my dash, and my laptop in the backseat. I need to extend the USB aspect of the screen, and it doesn't seem to be working. If I plug the monitor directly into the computer, it works fine. If I plug the monitor into the USB extension cable, it stops working, and even fails to recognize that I have something plugged into it.
I am fairly sure that my extension cable isn't bad, so what could be a solution to this?

I just checked my cable, and it does work for a usb mouse. And the mouse does say that it takes 500mA, so the cable can support high drain devices...
Still need to check it against another cable though.
Any other suggestions?

it's connected like this right?
into monitor: round 7 pin adapter
into laptop: touchscreen USB and VGA adapter
the USB is just the touch screen. You do have both plugged into the laptop right?
I made even stupider mistakes when I did mine so that's why I'm asking -- I plugged the touch screen USB into the composite output USB port on the monitor itself instead of into the laptop's USB port.
Edit: Reading your post again it doesn't look like you made any mistakes like that, but how does the VGA cable reach and the USB doesn't? (you didn't mention having to get a vga extension)
try a usb booster cable but at such a short run your cable is probably bad
