8 inch Sharp - why not popular?

Seems everybody has a 7 inch screen (generally xenarc or lilliput), but no-one seems to have gone for the 8 inch Sharp (http://www.digitalww.com/VGA_TM_810VGT.htm).

I mean, its bigger, and its cheaper than the xenarc-models, so why the impopularity?

I never knew that was a sharp. I only thought that they only sold lilliput stuff. May have to look into the sharp. Anyone ever have any experience with those.

For starters, the Xenarc has a USB touchscreen installed, worth about $80-$100 if bought separately. Also, from taking a look at their website ( www.xenarcdirect.com ), it seems that the once-optional "High Brightness Backlight" is now included automatically, which also jacks up the price of these screens. That's not to say that the Sharp screen you mention isn't good (380 nits, 262,144 colors), but the things I mentioned above justify the higher cost of the Xenarc....

Actually, you can get this screen with touch-screen from e-bay at about the same price as on digitalww (without it).

But to avoid a holy war, lets just compare the 7 inch lilliput bought from e-bay, and the 8 inch Sharp, also bought from e-bay (since both the xenarc vs lilliput issue AND which retailer to chose are touchy subjects). Is the lilliput really that much better to be comparatively so much more popular?

I mean, they both have vga input, touch-screen, and pretty much the same amount of pixels (lilliput has a copule more).

That sharp only does 640x480 (that's the actual pixel layout), any resolution that you put to that monitor more than 640x480 is going to blur. It was probably initially used for some some of properietary GPS system.

lower resolution on the sharp and the 7" will just sneak inside a double din opening if you use a big hammer.

For starters that 8" on digitalww website is a touch screen. And it depends on what Xenarc you get that will determine if its a touch screen or not. They do have a VGA LCD that isn't a touch screen for about the same price as the Sharp. But if you get that xenarc with the touchscreen that touchscreen comes at the price of brightness. Not sure about the sharp one. But even without the touch screens are you really going to notice only a 20 nit difference. Not sure thats going to be a whole lot of difference or not. But the Xenarcs resolution is a little bit better but I don't think I would run it at the 1600x1200. I don't even use my 17" desktop at that resolution. The shaprs resolution is 1024x768. Not a whole lot of difference for the size of the monitors. And I don't think it would blurr going up to that resolution. But who knows.

I am not saying which one is better because I have seen none of these in person though I would like too just to get a feel for them. But I still am leaning towards the Xenarc instead. I just know a little more about it and have heard good things about it as to where I haven't heard anything about the sharp and more bad things about the lilliputs than good and don't really want to roll the dice with those monitors.
