StarVision 7" LCD... what is the consensus?

Is this screen worth it? Those that have it and those that are thinking about it? Is it worth the $255.00 shipped? Or should I still go with a Lilliput?

Finally how is Discount Hound with customer service?

    Thanks everyone!

yeah, I already read that one

Yeah, I saw that thread, it is 24 pages long of mostly crap. One a very few reviews and true useful information. I am ready to pull the trigger on the screen and basically wanted a go/no go kinda response from those who have used it or planned to use it.

Not 24 pages of... tomorrow I will see it... oh they did not make it though customs yet... are they in stock... their building looks empty... etc etc

"...at MP3Car Forums, an informed consumer is our best participant..."

All that "24 pages" of stuff is ambience. Know your vendor and all that jazz.

I could tell you that my experience (owning both for at least a couple of hours now) is that the Lilli is worth the price diff. Then again, you might go right out and buy one and yours would be shiitake (one Lilli is not all Lilli's based on some of those long threads), and you'd say "thanks a lot for the bad info, dude." Not to mention personal preference. There are reasons that monitors can display differen color temps. Some folks like green faces.

Read all the reviews you can - even the long boring ones - and make up your own mind based on more than just someone telling you to get brand X because his particular sample was the shizzle.

The point was that the wealth of knowledge about that screen is ENTIRELY contained within that thread. There are no short-cuts.

Having gotten one of these monitors: getting shipment was a pain, but the company advises they now have plenty of inventory so it should be much easier now - at least while they have inventory. Other than not being able to ship something they didn't have in hand, they were pretty good to deal with - decent email responses, answered the phone, seemed supportive in conversation.

My monitor has an issue with the touchscreen having interference with the cover. the distribution company seems to be checking these now before shipment. They have said they will replace affected ones if needed.

Monitor apparantly is 800 native resolution. 60 hz refresh looks shimmery. 72 hz looks fine. Windows Icon descriptions at 1024 are barely readable.

On applying power, I have to push the power button on the screen. No instructions came with it to see if there is a way to lock the power button On for power up.

Requires 11 - 24 volt 1amp DC supply. says less than 8 watts of power.

Has Video1, Video2, VGA input choices.

A look at the innards shows multiple boards kinda taped together (USB / touchscreen / power supply). Might fit into digitalww's in dash receiver.

    That's the review so far.

You're either going to have to be patient to get real reviews as people actually get these things installed and see how they hold up in an auto environment and how customer service is handled on units that have seen some use. So far customer service looks promising but this is a new product and there is just no way to know as much about them as is known about the Lilliput. So, either be patient and keep waiting, or be one of us bleeding edge people and buy one and cross your fingers, or just get the Lilliput. I was in the same boat you're in and after reading all 20+ pages over the past couple of weeks and seeing how the company dealt with customers problems, I decided to just buy one this past Friday and take my chances on a virtual unknown. For me the Lilliput seemed to have way too many problem reports and it appeared you'd be taking a chance on whether or not you'd end up with a "good" one. I also like the black case, saves me the trouble of having to paint it.
