the guy responded back to me, but confused what to ask:

Many thanks for your enquiry. I would be delighted to provide you with some
suitable sample materials for your tests. Do you have any preferences for
substrate materials e.g. polycarbonate, polyester etc. ? Any thickness
requirements ? Any other essential properties would help us to select the
correct products from those that we have available.
The guy must think he hit a goldmine with all of us requesting samples :-P

I would tell him that your not exactly sure what thickness would be the best in your particular application, and then give him a link to a xenarc monitor. tell him the requirments for your application are to reduce screen glare on a Xenarc 700TSV that is mounted to a car dash. in addition, daytime brightness is and touchscreen performance is an issue, so you need maximum antiglare/reflection performance without any significant impediment on touchscreen performance or the brightness of the monitor in daylight viewing conditions.

I'm very interested to hear what you guys think of this stuff; I hope it's as good as they make it sound.

    Kandyman -

I think you're gonna want the thinnest stuff you can get; that will ensure that it's flexible enough to easily transfer your finger pressure (preferably without spreading it out). Same goes for substrate materal (most maliable material available) along with maximum light transmission; you want the clearest stuff possble so it doesn't dim the image any more than necessary.

Please keep us posted, and provide pics when possible.

ehh, a bit late on the car thing...i told him this is for a test project for my work's construction crew that are using laptops and tablet PCs. tried to work it in though, but it is a stretch. :-)

I did however give him the stats for the touchscreen and its brightness level though for the Xerac and the Tablet PC (which I use one at work..)

    My response:
Thank you for getting back to me.

After discussing it with my testing team, we would need a film that will provide maximum antiglare/reflection performance, has no or little significant impediment on touch screen performance or the brightness of the monitor in daylight viewing. I believe this would probably be the thinnest and clearest material you may have with the maximum antiglare/reflection performance.

Our team is most interested in using your film on our Compaq Tablet PCs and our Xerac 7" Touch Screens that we use for a secondary monitor for CAD and ad-hoc graphic pen pad.

    Xerac screen specs:

    <<insert work sig here>>
Thanks for both your help:-) Once I hear a response or get samples, I will be sure to take plenty of pics and post up the linkage.

I work on this sort of thing as an optical engineer and have a couple of things to chime in with. First the substraight material is important and the glue is even more iportant. If they don't all have the same index of refraction you just get the refection off the surface between the glue and the touch screen instead of the surface between the air and the touchscreen. So because it's unlikley that anyone at the store that sold you the touchscreen will know anything about the index this is probably gonna inolve a little trial and error. I'm not familiar with the surface of the touchscreens but i'd imagine that it already has an antiglare surface. I think mine does. If not the people who made it were fools. Some AG films are better than others so there may or may not be something to gain by getting this stuff on the screen. I can say without a doubt that none of the films out there do a great job in dirrect sunlight. The sun is wicked bright. It's a real tough problem. For this reason i agree with some of the earlier posts that the real best solution is to tint your windows and much as you think you can get away with. I'm also in MD and am living with the 35% limit

Anyway i'm not trying to rain on the parade but i think this is gonna be a tough problem to solve.

The way the touchscreens are integrated with the LCD screen, I don't think we would need to use glue to keep it in place. It simply needs to be the correct size - kept in place the same way the touchscreen panel is held in front of the LCD.

what we need is something that stops glare but works in a similar way to those sunglasses that react to light. IE the brighter the light the harder is works, but in low light levels it goes more transparent.
