hmmm - great info on the polarization, stationrocket. Thanks!
now get back to work!

Wow, I've gotta say, SR sure knows his stuff. Refraction matching (in my experience) is next to impossible unless you're the manufacturer and have the ACTUAL technical data on your materials. Nearly all of the touch substrates are polycarbonate, but the quality control on them is very poor, and I'm guessing the index of refraction actually varies noticably from one side of the screen to the other.
Furthermore, in my research of touchscreens, I found a side-on view of a touchscreen, which shows that they actually rely on an air pocket between the two layers, such that ANY AG covering would likely not combat the internal refractive nature of the TS.
Now, this is only true of what are known as "Resistive" and "Capacative" touch screens. If you get really fancy and decide to place an "Acoustic Wave" touch panel on your screen, you won't find any such air pockets.
The spec sheet that Sun-Tai sent me for one of their units (which, btw, only cost $25!) show this. Look at the tiny space between the glass and film. Look again that the adhesive only goes around the edge, not covering the whole screen (as would be needed to keep light from passing through the additional medium of air...again).
I decided to attach the spec sheet. Enjoy. It's big.
There's nothing you can't do, so don't be discouraged just because no one else's done it.
hmmm, more air gaps :-(
This info make me even more certain that the right surface is the inside of your windows.....
Vicci,
What are you guys gonna do with the fold out unit you're working on. any luck finding a touchpannel with a good coating already laminated to it?
The SID confrence that's in Seattle next week is the best trade show for finding components and parts for display systems. If you guys have the means you should really get someone out there to walk the floor. I remember last year there were lots of different people offering this sort of thing. I was going but i had to cancel my trip last week because things are going a little crazy around here.
the right surfact to coat that is
stationrocket, is the SunTai touchscreen good? I mean will it combat glare? The 1.5+/-0.5 is that too big a gap?
From what I understand from your post, the reflective glare is due to the air gap between the two layers aye?

guys, ive received the film and cut it to size and tried it over the TS and unfortunately, it doesnt really make much of a difference.... I think it reduces the glare by maybe 5%, if that. Everything just looks cloudy.
I decided to remove the TS completely just for comparisons sake and i was amazed as to how much better the screen looks without it. Nice and crisp. I dont know what else to do about the daytime glare, so for right now, im just gona keep the TS off and hope that someone can find a better solution.

sorry I'm not familiar with that particular one. But any touchscreen will make the glare worse not better. any air gap no matter how thin will hurt the same amount.
The reflection (glare) will happen at the interface between any two materials with different indexes. The bigger the index diff the more light that's reflected.
