    hi from the datalux guy

Hi all. I work for Datalux as one of their service techs. I thought I would make myself available as I found out lots of folks are using our stuff for mp3 players. I cant really say too much about stuff related to work but thought I could help anyone out with ?'s about older products if they got em. I've been fixing the stuff for close to 5 years now so I've pretty much seen every Datalux screen there is.

Please no ?'s about parts favors or servicing things outside the job.

    thanks

Wow, well I actually just got a used 10.4" LMV10. It appears the four front buttons on the screen do nothing, the contrast and brightness adjuments. I press them but notice no difference. Is this a something fixable? Also my screen has some dark spots? And heh, my screen seems to flicker whenever my computer is processing? Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hi Jawbreak. Posting this from the Datalux mothership.

yeah, it's fixable - but you would need a new touchscreen to do it. Sounds to me like you have a VERY USED UP unit. Most of them are used by the Police Dept's we sell to for 3 or 4 years and by the time you guys get them after they have been dumped when the warranty runs out they are shaky. The cops REALLY beat on our stuff, hard.

Best thing I can tell you is request an RMA from DLux. It sounds like it has too many issues to deal with on here.

While on the subject of Datalux, can somebody post a definitive guide for the variouls LV10 series on how to convert them to take 3.3V instead of 5 (or both) in a language that doesn't require an engineering degree to properly understand.

Thing is all the archived posts brush up on it but everyone lists different ways with no real explanation on how to do it. Also some people have mentioned there are internal difference between the different sub models.

I know you can generally do this with a 60$ VGA extender, but that is more clutter and requires its own power supply at 5-12V so more clutter and wiring (and expenses).

At the factory here we have a special board, called a sync translator board, that gets installed internally. There are other ways to do the job as I have seen here.

A good rule of thumb is to examine the backplate or back cover on any LMV10 series monitor you see for sale on Ebay. Ask the seller if the back cover is flat over the entire surface or if it sinks in in the middle. If it has a curved inwards backplate, odds are good that it is only good for 5V sync. Odds are also good that it only has a 100 nit LCD panel in it that has years of hard use on it.

You should really only grab the flat backplate ones. They are much more modern. Our displays are older than most, Datalux made their first ones in 1995, when LCD displays were real wiz bang tech. Also keep in mind we sell to police depts and a lot of cops beat on our gear really hard. By the time it is available to you on the open market a lot of the life is gone. Sad to say but true. Mobile use in cop cars is hard usage.

    No screen repsone

    HI Dataluxguy,

I have a 12.1" Datalux touchscreen. I accidently reversed the voltage polarity and now only the back light comes on briefly before going off again when I connect it up. What components have I fried? Is it easy to fix?

    Cheers

Hello, need help with a datalux tracer. Seems the Operating system has gone corrupted (missing system32\DRIVERS\pci.sys etc). Tried to reinstall using an external hard drive but no luck. Any suggestions?? Thanks
