I have a 10.4 inch touchscreen that came with a kiosk PC and have tried it in a beta test in my car.
It didn't came to my mind that the unit might not be sun redeable... I cannot read most things in daylight inside the car unless its very high contrast.
can I do anything about it?
I haven't found a solution so far.

I know you probably don't want to hear this but the best thing that you can do is get a reflective TFT LCD
You could try to play with the gamma control within mediacar also

Removing the touch overlay would work wonders, but then you wouldn't have a touch screen anymore.

Yea thats not really an option
You can get a capacitive or acustic wave touchscreen. These are less prone to glare then that resistive touchpanels.

can the glareness of the touchscreen adapted?
-Mars
In short no
there is less glare with other types of touchscreens though but becasue there is a small gap between the touchpanel and the lcd glare is imminent and unavoidable
acustic wave touchscreens are on solid peice of glass on the front so there is a lot less glare plus there isn't that resistive coating as in resitive touchscreens
