I use Girder and its LCD-Master, with the LCD plugin.
with this you do whatever you want with the LCD.
I was looking the other day at all my software I have for HD44780 parrallel connected LCD's, which make a great add on to a car pc system. And I was thinking, that with basically everyone now, using 7" colour displays, all the LCD stuff is going to dissapear and be forgotten a bit. I am asking everyone that has used and liked something they have used with their HD44780 based LCD to post it up here, so we can get together a complete list.
I want to put it all together of course onto CD so i can always have it (having biult 3 car pc's now, with varying different LCD displays add ons)
So let us begin
I am currently using the Cystalfonz 1.06 to display some stuff on my home pc, and will use it in my next incar system, IF i can get two displays to run off the one PC. (another question someone can answer if they have done this!)
cheers

I have used JaLCDs on my home computer's drive bay lcd and was very impressed with it. http://www.jalcds.de/
I've tried several of them. I like LCDCenter and the CrystalFontz one. I've heard the Smartie LCD is really good too.
Of course if I don't get this stupid LCD working, it doesn't really matter which one I use.

I use that.
Yes you can run two displays on the same computer, there's a diagram on Markus' page on how to wire this up, but your software must support it. You just have to wire two individual enable pins, and set the corresponding pin to high when you want to poke data across the bus (and set the other LCD's pin to low so it doesn't take the read).
you forgot to mention girder...

lcdproc, for Linux, works pretty good. The wiring diagram for an hd44780 is inside the commentary of the hd44780 driver source. Either hd44780-ext8bit.c or hd44780-4bit.c. 4bit mode will allow wiring multiple lcd modules to one port.

Second that, Markus' plugin rocks.Originally Posted by starfox
You can also hook up two LCDs if you connect them each to a separate port and use two different programs.
