    Hardwiring Xenarc 700TSV

I recently bought a used 700TSV but it did not come with car adaptor. Can I buy a replacement at Radio Shack, and if so which one do I get? What do I look for?

I was thinking of hardwiring it if possible but do not know how to go about it. I did a it appears some people have burned their screens out using the car adaptor because they reversed the polarity. From what I read some people took the wire with the lettering as the positive...

If anyone could help me out it would be great. I am new to this so please bear with me.

    Thanks.

My Xenarc 700TSV has been hardwired with no problems for well over a year. The input rating is fine for fluctuating automotive use. I'm sure it isn't wise to reverse the polarity (never done it), and I don't recal off-hand which wire is which. If you have the wall AC adapter, you can easily figure it out with a multimeter. Most power connectors are center-positive (i.e. the middle pin is +) and I think this is the case for the Xenarc, but better check it to be sure!

The car 'adaptor' must be a big waste of money, as all it will be is a cigarette lighter plug and some wire. Unless you want to easily unplug your screen, hardwiring is fine (you can use any plug for that matter, wired in to the car's power).

So you are saying directly wire it to the car with just straight wires being center is positive? This setup is also ok for the screen to be on while cranking?

I did a search on hardwire xenarc and power xenarc but I don't get much results. Could anyone point me in the right direction? Egar to get this up and working. Thanks. I guess I could always go the invertor route but I read that is inefficient cause it goes dc-ac-dc again.

Nearest I can tell there is nothing special about the Xenarc cigarette adapter. It has a 1A/250V fuse. If you look at the back of your Xenarc you'll see that the + line is the center one.

My best advice: take your monitor to RadioShack and find a cigarette adapter that fits the connection to the monitor (it's a standard connection, but I don't know which one). Double check the fuse. Double check that when it's plugged in you get -12v from the outside of the monitor connector to the inside.

Ok, looking at the Xenarc ac wire with the plug cut off....

Inside the outer black cover, I have a bare wire and then a wire with white plastic cover surrounded by the bare wire.. So, im asuming the the white covered wire ( center ) in the possitive and the bare wire is the ground.

    Right?

The center connector is positive and the outer connector is ground. mine has been hard wired like this for a couple of months now with no problem at all. Find a plug that fits somewhere, an old AC adaptor or some such, cut it off and wire it in. It is definitely the best way to go. Just check that polarity at least 3 times before you power up for the first time!

Sorry I should have been more clear in that response. I meant any plug that fits the Xenarc DC in application. Preferably hardwiring would take place behind the dash so that the cigarrete plug would not have to be used. Although I do strongly recommend fusing any type of hardwired installation!

EDIT: What year is your CBR 900? I personally Ride an '02 R1 and have been riding for over 10 years now.
