Pretty impressive but no photos of the actual extension. That would be interesting to see... with 45 wires.
I wonder if that's going to be the difference. Two different types of signals right? Can they both be extended to the same length?Originally Posted by Yuriy
I don't have any idea, I just thought I'd throw that out there.

Okay, you made me get up and take a picture of my LCD's back side:
Here you can see the extension cables before I hid them this morning:
And this is how the damn thing looks before extension:
I'm sorry, I lied about the 45 wires. There were actually 42 for the LCD cable and 5 more for the inverter cable, which makes it 47![]()

You can extend the LCD signal for as long as you want, but the backlight signal has to be done this way:
The way it works is the computer sends a signal to the inverter board, which then amplifies it and sends to a gas lamp which is the actuall backlight. The key is to keep the INVERTER<>BACKLIGHT cable as short as possible and then you can extend the COMPUTER<>INVERTER cables. Apparently the signal from the inverter gets weaker as the cable gets longer, but the signal from the computer to the inverter can be extended.

nope
But I was curious. Actually i might now try to do that with an old laptop of mine.

I did a few myself and it all depends on the type of lcd Interface used on the laptop.
If the interface between the motherboard and lcd is LVDS then you should be able to extend it to a few meters. if it's individual color bits and sysnc signals then the max you will get without visible jitter is ~18". Any longer than that and your display will roll and tear and display weird anomalys.
This is due to the high data rates. I actually connected a laptop screen to a PCI controller card using a 2' shielded cable with separate cables for clock and colour signals. The display was working but I could still see interference on the screen.

Well, now that you mentioned it - I do see some minor interference on mine..Originally Posted by Aksor

On Another note, I just took apart another laptop, its a old Toshiba Tecra 8000, the LCD is quite different then the Inspiron 2500, is there anyway to intergrate this into the Inspiron and do away with the Inspiron LCD? What would I need to do this? I'll attach pictures. Sorry for all the questions, Im still new to this and thanks for all the help.
You won't be able to connect this to a different laptop, but extending it will be a breeze.
Why not use a Toshiba instead of Dell then?

You guys seem like the experts i need! I have acquired a Hitachi 14.1" touchscreen. (TX36D75VC1CAB) It appears to have a ribbon cable, a two wire connector (power i assume) and then a spot for another ribbon cable on what i believe is the touchscreen controller. I would love to get this thing to work if anyone has any ideas on where i could get some info involving pinouts and such. It came in a Cimlink Delta Airlines Diagnostic tablet minus all of the guts of the tablet.
