15" overhead custom vga lcd monitor

i was thinking the other day (good habit) and i was wondering if there was a way to mount a 15" vga lcd monitor as an overhead screen for the back seat. you would have to get a vga repeater from the cpu and just use vga cables, not the rca's. the only thing you would have to do is come up with a footprint for the lcd monitor to mount to the ceiling to the car, it would have to fold down also. tell me your ideas, and maybe any solutions. thanks

I've got a 12" touchscreen I've been looking to suspend from the ceiling of my ranger. I've contacted several selleers on ebay with 12" roof mount lcd's but so far they only have had the complete kit, I want the mounting only.

What is the screen in the back seat going to be used for, if its only for movies/dvd/game consoles ect...why couldnt you just go with an RCA? Or do you plan on chilling in the back seat and surfing the web or something?

Real topical solution maybe, maybe a little simpler than is possible.

Couldn't you take a laptop case, use the screen mounts and flip the monitor upside down. You would have to extend the wires so that they would reach, since they usually come from the bottom and you would have to move them to the top. You might even be able use the same locking mechanism. Then either paint the case the same color as your headliner, or gut your ceiling, and use a piece of the headliner to disguise it.

i love the resolution from a crisp 15" vga display, it beats that fuzzy rca connection

i can't find 2 laptops that are the same for the same screens. plus i don't want to spend 2k on screens, for that amount i might as well buy the regular ones from clarion or audiovox. but i thought about your idea before i posted this. i'm looking for a 15.4" WIDESCREEN from 2 laptops. on my current laptop it's widescreen, but i spent too much money on it to gut my laptop.

I plan on doing something along the same lines with either a 15-17" lcd monitor in the back seat. I plan on making the enclosure now that I picked up a mig welder. A lightweight aluminum frame should do the trick. This way the passangers can watch a movie, but when I go camping in my truck, I can lay down on the bed platform I'll be making soon and watch movies. I drive an 89 Isuzu Trooper II. Fun stuff.
