What was it playing? There is a big differance between MediaCar playing movies/visuals/nothing at all. If you just have a list of your songs I don't know how it couldn't be legal. If all you had was a list of your songs, how would that be any differant than you printing out a copy of your screen and placing it there (which is legal).

Exactly. Many systems come factory with color displays that are able to display info like track name, number, duration, etc...Originally Posted by brady
It probably aslo depends some one how your setup looks. If the LCD is just kinda hanging out (not molded/blended into dash) it looks like a "TV" to most people. Everyone asks me if my LCD was a factory option and are amazed when I say no.
here is the the screen i had.. this one is from my home pc, but the one is car had list of songs.
If that is all you had on your screen I think your friend is full of crap. He probably just assumed it was playing a movie.

There have been other threads on here about this same situation. It seems the consensus is that stationary screens (ie... gps, or music screens) are OK, as they come factory in many vehicles. However, if the screen is running visuals or anything else that has movement, or you are clicking away running other programs while driving, then it is a problem.
I think the big thing is, be cool with your setup.

in florida it is illegal to have a screen in view of the driver. However, it is allowed IF it is used for navagation. Homie of mine got a warning with his screen and it was off when he was stopped. FYI, get pulled over, loadup GPS quick.

why don't you just turn it off when you get pulled over? unless it's in view of everyone around you. Mine's down by my shifter so if i get pulled over, i'll just turn it off and slide it back in its housing.
