Question Xenarc : Extra bright, extra $195.00

Never heard this Xenarc option talked about on the board, Wonder if it shortens the life of the LCD?

    Xenarc Direct

    Product ID: UltraBright Category: Accessories
    Ultra High Brightness Enhancement
Description: Ultra High Brightness Enhancement Upgrade. This upgrade increase the brightness of your monitor by up to 80%. An anti-reflective coating will also be applied. Available for 500Y, 570M-3, 700V, 700Y, 700YV, 700TS, and 700TSV.
    Price: $195.00

That seems like alot of money to tack onto Xenarcs hefty price. For $195, I better need sunglasses. Anybody have this option??

It's been mentioned here and there. I remember someone here selling their upgrade kit. I'm thinking about this option maybe in the future. Would be nice to have some comparison shots. I doubt it would shorten the life of the LCD. It's probalby just a brighter backlight and maybe more powerful inverter.

Increasing the brightness of an lcd has nothing to do with the life of the lcd. All they do is replace the ccfl bulbs with higher voltage units, and replace the inverter to produce the required higher voltage.
Just like changing a 20 watt light bulb to a 100 watt light bulb in your bathroom. Does not shorten the life of your nudie books, just makes them easier to read.

I talked directly with a representative from xenarc about the brightness upgrade and they said that the ONLY thing it now includes is application of a special coating that prevents glare. Before they released the second revision of the xenarcs, it did also include a ccfl upgrade, but now, since all the second revision screens now include the upgraded ccfl, they no longer upgrade it with the brightness upgrade.

Ohh. The reason I asked about the life span is because I read this on their website

Q: What is the difference between LCD Brightness and Display Brightness?

A: Our numbers on LCD Brightness is the LCD Module manufacturer's claimed maximum output. This is for comparison purpose because many company in this industry state this brightness number as the brightness of their monitor. This often could be misleading because the actual or typical output is in general lower than the maximum output. Therefore, we have also listed out our laboratory tested brightness number under Display Brightness. Please note that the maximum output claimed by the LCD Module manufacturer (LCD Brightness) is achieved by driving the CCFL so hard that it dramatically decreases the life of the CCFL. The reason why there is a discrepancy between LCD Brightness rating and our Display Brightness rating is because we use recommended CCFL inverter output to drive the CCFL to achieve typical output and we also took into account the lost of brightness through A/D board and/or Touchscreen panel. Please note that a Resistive Touchscreen panel has an average light transmissivity of 78%.

Guess I confused the two principles.err... I got it now.

Ahhhhh. No I know what "new brighter with anti-glare" was when I ordered my Xenarc. It's he "newer" version. I can say that it's nothing extremely spectaular in direct light. Mostly due to the TS overlay.
