It's not VGA, so the text would be blurry.
I was looking a while back to do a carpc, but it's just beyond my budget at any reasonable time in the future, so I'm just going to finish up my car system another way. Basically all I need left to buy is a motorized in dash screen, pref. 7", all it will be used for is watching DVD's and possibly hooking up a Super Nintendo here and there. I'm not looking to break the bank, but I don't want to wind up short changing myself in the long run. Obviously I checked out eBay and came across hundreds like this one . Will that be good enough considering what I need, and if not, what would be better standards to look for in terms of resolution, brightness, etc.? I'm not as versed in these kind of specifics, so I greatly appreciate any help.
there doesn't really seem to be any motorized in-dash VGA screens, at least on eBay, will it make that big of a difference considering I'm not planning to watch movies with subtitles?
Motorized VGA screens aren't available yet.

There are non-motorized in-dash, though:

Well, if you just plan on watching DVDs with it, you'll be fine. But if you ever want a carputer to play MP3s and such, you'll be much happier with VGA. Are you saying that you are giving up on a carputer, or are you saying just not right now?
It wouldn't be for well over a year until I could put it together because I'm trying to start up a business and can afford a hundred bucks here or there, but if I go for a carputer, I'm gonna wind up spending well over a grand. When motorized VGA's become available and if all has settled down, I'll upgrade the system.
It's pretty cheap. You could get it, and then get a touch-screen. You get the touch-screen out of the housing and put it into the motorized indash one. And with the video screen from the motorized in dash unit, you put it into the housing of the touch screen. Basiclly, you switch the screens between them. The hole thing shoudn't get you more than 350$. Good luck!
