I'd be curious why your friend thinks that flipdown monitors in the back would be illegal, did he say why?
I know there have been couple of posts on this issue. Ok, so it is illegal to have a "sceen" in the front of the driver/front passenger area that is displaying
anything other than navigation.
Secondly a friend of mine was just telling me it is illegal to have a 10" flipdown monitor in the rear(i.e like attached to the roof). Ok so what about headrests e.t.c, I mean has anyone read the DOT handbook, or does anyone have an idea of the true legal setup one can put in car.(especially in regards to this 10" flipdown)
Oh, the car we were arguing about is my friends cadillac sedan,(can't remember the make, but the one that was used in that bad boys II movie).

The state is NY, well my friend does like alarm installations e.t.c. He says a customer asked him for 10" flipdown, which he always installed(but never knew what the legal/illegal status was). Ok so the customer shows up b4 the install and says that she doesn't want 10" flipdown anymore that "they said" its illegal. You know how it is "they said", "who said". Well I was there, and I said, I wasen't sure myself, but I know the right place to check is the DOT (Department of Transportation Handbook.). So I figured I threw that question up here, since a lot of people here might have had some sorta user+screen incident with the law. i.e if it is really an issue too, cause most cops wont bother.Originally Posted by Chairboy

yea, that state the rules clearly for CA, I also saw this link http://www.dslreports.com/shownAews/36883. I searching to see if there is anything on NY. We might even have no rule at all.Originally Posted by silencery
Is it posisble that the 10" flip down might block the driver's view to the rear of the vehicle and therefore more it illegal?
Thats what I thought, also, but it is legal to have any depth of tints on your rear windows and rear windshield, as a matter of fact, you can spraypaint it black if you want. So that also obstructs the drivers view to the rear, except when he uses his side mirrors.Originally Posted by rando
