Question about laptop display controller

I have an old sony Vaio thats been heavily damaged by a static shock. With that and the fact that its so slow, I thought about just using the display from it on a different computer. Would it be possible to either pull out the controller and hook it to a VGA connector or just hook the screen right up to the VGA connector without a controller? If there are any other ways to get a screen from a laptop to work with a standard VGA port, please give me some info.

i looked this stuff up a while ago and came up with disheartening news. first off, in almost every laptop the controller card is built into the motherboard, so its off limits. next, for some reason there is no industry standard in laptop controllers, so it varies so much, and youd have to find a specific card. also, theyre quite expensive. youd be better off buying an lcd outright.

Agree. You can try http://earthlcd.com for a controller but they are quite expensive and you need to find out which controller you have. It will, in the end, be cheaper to just buy a new lcd.

Yeah, I figured it might be. Oh well. I'm not gonna bother with another controller, this was just an idea for an old laptop with little use.
