    Replace touchscreen on Xenarc/Lili?

I haven't found any mention of this in other threads.

I read in another thread, somebody took the touchscreen out of their Xenarc and that the screen underneath was actually very bright and clear. The touchscreen was the problem for glare.

I'm sure it'll be possible to replace the touchscreen with a better quality one. I've seen various solutions from 3M and elo. I haven't found a 7" widescreen solution yet, but I'm wonder if anyone here is knowledgable in touchscreen overlays.

I know there is capacitive and resistive touchscreens. What does the Xenarc use? Is it possible to replace the plastic overlay with one that is more of a film, like the ones you see on in-dash dvd players?

I am not sure what the xenarc uses but the lilliputs are resistive, I was under the impression that the capacitive touchscreens were the kind that are sprayed onto crt monitors giving the look that it's not touchscreen at all.

But I dont see any reason why you couldnt change the touchscreen as long as you replaced the controller. It's actually a a good idea I will talk to a friend of mine that works for a company that makes them to see if a custom one can be made that reduces glare.

Yes, the touchscreen dulls the screen majorly. It really makes a huge difference when you remove, it adds about 100 nits.

I don't know if you'll be able to find any replacements. The ELO touchscreen I have uses the same exact touchscreen glass as well as teh same touchscreen controller, they appear to be the same exact hardware. Lilliputs and xenarc's also use remarkably similar touchscreen hardware. I doubt you'll find anything better in a 7" format then what you have already. The best touchscreen technology I've heard of uses infrared beams to sense where your finger is, the means you don't have any overlay over the screen, but I have yet to see these for sale anywhere. I think cost was prohibitive for the limited market for them.

3M make capacitive resistive touch screens: http://www.3m.com/3MTouchSystems/Pro...ClearTek.jhtml

Their version appears to be on a sheet of glass. The glass looks clear in the photograph, but who knows? The main advantage seems to be durability and they are unaffected by dust and contaminants.

I had a 300nit screen that was pretty usable in the car until I put a touch screen on top of it. It was really dim and the glare was incredible. I've switched to a Xenarc 8". I took it apart last night and it uses a 4 wire resistive touch screen, like the Lilli's.

Yeh, but the Xenarc's touchscreen dosn't melt because of the heat and break.
