I searched around but there is not much talk about OLED Displays. I found that Kodak is now making these but I do not know in what sizes, how much they are and if they are avalible to the public. I sent an info request email to the group at Kodak telling them how we use them and if they had a product that could be used in our aplication. I will post back as soo as I get a reply.
here is a link the Kodak OLED Displays site.

Not to mention that they're going to cost about $20,000 when they are first available![]()
$20,000....LOL...
You’re probably right. My hope in the end would be to have an in dash motorized unit with touch screen. Or at least a basic kit that we can install in our dash or a houseing.
These OLED units should resolve or at least help our "cant see in the sun light" problem. Plus better viewing at an angle.

They will be expensive at first, but it is my understanding that they are actually cheaper to produce as they can be printed or something. Samsung is producing a 21" TV with it now...jeez i just one one 7" with a nice little touchscreen. And E_Z_Street, the reason why we want one is so you can see it well in direct sunlight. And as far as the color fading, its takes a lot of hours to fade..way more than you spend in your car im sure. Ive been waiting for years, probably will be waiting for several more years.
"Materials in an OLED display emit light when an electrical current is applied. The displays can function without a backlight, which cuts down on power consumption, screen thickness and cost. OLED displays also offer higher resolution than LCDs."

OLED has been the holy grail for LCD's for the last 2-3 years. It's supposed to be the next big thing. As far as I know, the only consumer-ready device to employ OLED screens (other than some of the small external screens on cell phones) is a Kodak digital camera that has an OLED display screen. I think the size of the screen is about 2".
I am fine with my hi-bright tft for now. When the price drops for an OLED, then we'll talk again. Unless I can get one from work for free <8^)Originally Posted by Bama5150
As far as the color fading, I'm just telling you what the Delphi engineer told me. They are having durability issues with OLEDs in automotive environments. I am thinking this is due to temperature, sunlight, shock, etc.
Ooh, color! Didn't know they actually got it working. The whole idea was to make something cheaper than LCD but $20K? Yuck. Here's more on the designers, patent holders, whatever: http://www.universaldisplay.com/
