the ccfl backlight?
I hacke dup my TM-701L myself and what I've realized is that no matter now careful you are on it...once you open those suckers up, they will never be the same as the day you bought them. It's alwas a hack job at best. Things are always bound to go wrong. Don't mean to rant, but damnit, I'm bitter.
the ccfl backlight?
And how would I test that? I am open to any suggestions.

if its the ccfl backlight, the light button at the bottom would still turn on. the only thign is the screen would stay dark, and under certain lighting conditions you would be able to see movement when sending a signal to your screen

Yep, that's what I thought. I had kind of ruled that out already. I don't have lights on my buttons since the mod but I had been looking at the monitor in different light from different angles to see if there was anything there but I don't see it.
I have to ask again. Does anyone know if Armen looks at this kind of thing and can he fix it or am I going to have to send it to HK? They probably won't even touch it since I have put it into the indash case.

I know exactly what your problem is, There is a reverse polarity protection diode that is blown ( I have played with quite a few of em). Its (white looking rectangular SC device) at the right bottom corner of lilliput (screen face down). U can use a jumper and go accross it. However, if you do so(make sure, you dont accidently power the lilliput in reverse, or else you'll see smoke coming out of it.) You can also find replacement from like digikey or jameco, however, its surface mounted, so you gatta remove it carefully. I'll post pictures later on when I get home.
Is it this circled in red? If so, I did put my meter on that. It showed 12.1V going in and 1.48 going out but I didn't know if that was unusual or not.

Yeah that is it, it's a fuse. and it should have 12 volts in and 12 volts out
because it's a pain to get and it blows sometimes, i just replaced mine with an external fuse holder and a 1 amp fuse.
But you could just bridge it for right now to test, but I would not leave it that way.

Correct, it is a fuse and should have 12V in/out!!
Don't worry, I made it once and I know how is look like. If you are sure that polarity is ok and you can measure the voltage then you can do the test, just wire both ends.
Don't leave it wired, just buy a new external fuse cell and it will be ok.
Be careful man
