Get a voltage regulator ic and build a curcuit.
The 7 volt thing should work as long as there is no other reference to ground (case, etc.). I would suggest testing on some other non-expensive equipment first, because I have never tried with anything other than a couple of ic chips.

you will fry ur lcd when you connect to your computer, because the psone use the same ground.
just buy the offcial car adaptor, i bought mine for $10 in bestbuy

This may help. Built one my self. except for 5v. you dont need the extra caps just the actual IC the caps are for power smoothing.
I would not do this. Although that makes sense, when you connect it to your computer, the data signals will be off by 5v (since the computer has a 0v GND and the display has a 5v GND)Originally Posted by mattress
If it wasn't for the two devices being connected, I'd say go for it
I bought a Sony power supply off Ebay for ~$25 shipped.
My first carPC!

Celeron 633MHz - 10GB Seagate - 64MB PC100 - Win XP
Soon to actually find its way into the car!
use the LM317 Variable voltage regulator or MC34063 switching regulator for efficency.
check this out
USE the psone 12V to 7.5 V adapter and powerstrip is needed to change the refresh rate for this to work
This one's even better:

EDIT: Oh yeah, you can forget those resistors too, I believe it's only needed for the PAL version of this screen.
