I agree! anything on the outside is likey to make it worse. You already have a TS on there and a lot of these films do not take that into consideration. You cannot simply stick an antiglare coating on and expect perfect clarity. Every layer of material has imperfections causing fuzzyness and steals light and that is before you get into the issue of lots of different refractive indexes as you have glass - TS - film! This can cause not only fuzzyness but TIR which gives glare.

4 wire TS are crap at light transmission but its the best we can get for out budgets. Perosonally i am tempted to rip mine off and use an i-drive interface. I have been for a while but i shall see how this brightness increase goes.

Defiler, didnt you try this a long time ago and had crap results?

We only sell the A/R film to distributors by sheets of 10, at $199 each. Unless your set up with a clean-room, we don't recommend trying to apply the films yourself. Our customers send in their LCD panels and we try to apply brightness enhancement films into the LCD, and A/R film on the surface. Pricing for a 7" display would be $199 (plus return shipping).

it sit he resistance wire TSs that cause the fuzzness and loss of light (75% transmission). Capacitive TSs are very clear so coating them is pretty good as you dont have the risk of ruining the brighness and making it even more fuzzy.

I have never seen on that small. All the screen companies i have talked to do 5 wire resistance TS (better than our 4 wires ones) but all the capacitive ones seem to start at 10.4". They also require something conductive so dont work with gloves or a sytlus. (need a bare finger) Not that this is an issue most of the time but if you use a stylus for some small stuff when not using your frontend it might be a pain (in which case use a mouse!)

This guy offered to do a free sample, and he is local to me, so I took him up on the offer. He put 3 layers of film on. One on the LCD, and one on each side of the touch screen. I don't have a before and after shot, but I can definitely see the screen better now in direct sunlight. Before, it was completely washed out and I could see maybe 25% of the screen, and now it's not great, but I can make out everything on the screen. Not exactly sure how antireflection film works, but he explained that by reducing the reflection off the back side of the TS, brightness actually increases, because more light goes through, instead of being reflected. The company is a small 2 man operation, so it might be worth it to call and check his pricing.

I have tested a variety of these films and the HEA2000 has both the lowest reflection and highest durability. It is worth the extra cost.

For those interested in more details of Parvo99 AR Film enahncement here are the details;
This enhancement consisted of adding a clear HEA2000 anti-reflection film to the front of the LCD (reducing total reflection at this layer from about 4% to <1%), adding a clear HEA2000 antireflection film to the back side of the touch panel (again from 4% to <1%), and adding a matte HEA2000 anti-reflection with a soft adhesive to the front side of the touch panel (again from 4% to <1% except with lower specular reflection and higher diffuse reflection due to the matte finish). Reflection of the 2 inner surface of the resistive touch panel remained at 4%.

Total improvement - there was about a 50% drop in total reflection for this display. A better touch panel or alternative could result in between 85% and 95% drop in reflection

To clarify;
1. These are HEA (High Efficiency Antireflection) thin films on PET film substrates, these are not just anti-glare or frosty coatings

2. The material used on the front of the touch panel has a soft adhesive and can be removed and replaced if needed. The other films should be considered permanent. The soft adhesive film potentially could be user installed (though the results would typically be better if I installed them in my filtered air room/class 100 flow bench).

3. If you really want a good looking display use a digitizer instead of a touch panel (you'll need a stylus), or use a NFI or acoustic wave touch panel (or anything without internal relfectance).

Unfortunately the advance sample of HEA2000-matte with soft adhesive has not become a commercial item and the supply of this film is very small and it is not being and may never be produced commercially. However I just ordered a sample run of the HEA2000-clear with soft adhesive which actually should work better for you purpose.

The price for enahncement of a 7" diagonal wide screen will be between $100 and $200 depending on what you want to have done (for $200 we could also jack up the backlight brightness with a DBEF); we suggest having AR films added to all 3 surfaces as was done on Parvo99's display; we request a test set for your display that we can drive with either a VGA standard signal or NTSC. And sorry our policy is that our liability is only up to the amount that you pay us, we are not responsible for failure of your display. (We will handle your display with extreme care, but we can not accept liability for a failed display as we expect to recieve everything from new displays which may fail due to infant mortality to used displays which have been mis-handled, poorly packed, and already run for thousands of hours.)

Some screen defect and scratches will go away completely due to our enhancement, other will become more visible. Deep scratches will not go away and may look worse after enhanement.

When the clear soft adhesive HEA2000 material arrives from Asia I'll sell pre-cut 7" sheets for about $15 ea in packs of 3. (or buy a full 500mm x 1000mm sheet for $179.00 plus shipping and cut it yourself )

In addition I suggest you consider a Vikuiti DBEF film for backlight brightness enhancement. This film will give you a 35% to 60% increase in brightness by using an optical trick with polarization and reflection (no added power/passive enhancement).

We are now up to two men and one woman, but still a small operation. For Vikuiti films I suggest a DBEF 440; this film is stable over temperature and has a good improvement over a wide viewing angle. If you are technically inclined and have a clean area you may be able to install yourself.

I am still deciding how to sell these enhancements for your purpose, my company sells to other companies (primarily Marine Computer, In-Flight Entertainment, and recently Cockpit Application) and selling to end users is a new thing we are evaluating.
