    Defiler,
    What in your opinion would the value be of a 50% to 60% drop in reflection + a 40% to 50% increase in brightness + plus a replaceble protector for your touch screen = giving you a 400% + increase in contrast during bright conditions, improved durablity and the ability to replace the front surface of your touch screen when worn?

    I figure one hour of time per display plus materials, longer if the backlight is being enhanced. My margin is actually quite slim, but the price would be lower if you had say 50, 1000, or 10,000 displays.

    what about this backlight upgrade, what exactly does it consist of? Is it dimmable for night use?

    The backlight up-grade would be the addition of a 3M Vikuiti DBEF-440 (or DBEF-E ) film. It would increase the brightness by a fixed percentage both at high brightness and low brightness. The film functions by only passing the light that has the polarization aligned with the rear polarizer, the rest of the light is reflected back into the backlight cavity to be "recycled". This is refered to by some as a reflective polarizer or a light recycling diffuser.

    Once I figure out what the polarization angle of the rear polarizer is of the specific display models used I would be happy to sell the DBEF film pre-cut to size for users to install. Each display model needs to be evaluated for polarization angle and simple fitness for enhancement.

    Recently I upgraded my first Automotive display ever as a freebie for Parvo99 here on MP3Car.com forumns, I only asked that he post an evaluation and photos. He seems happy with the improvement and posted such. This enhancement was only an AR film enhancement (no DBEF), it basically doubled (200% improvement) the high ambient contrast ratio (by cutting the reflection in half).

    Here is his post with photos;
    Touch Screen Upgrade

    I hope others will post with statements of how pleasureable it is to view there new and improved LCD after these enhancements. It is a shame that all the touch panels are resistive as there are two 4% layers that can not be touched that are driving down the contrast ratio; but there are 3 layers that can be reduced from 4% each to about 1% each, this is where the 50% improvement number comes from.

    OEM = 4% LCD Polarizer Surface + 4% Back of Touch + 4% Internal Touch #1 + 4% Internal Touch #2 + 4% front of touch = 20% total reflection

    FPDS AR Enhanced = 1% LCD Polarizer Surface + 1% Back of Touch + 4% Internal Touch #1 + 4% Internal Touch #2 + 1% front of touch = 11% total reflection

    Before and after picks would not be an effective means of evaluation due to variances such as light intensity (you can not judge this by eye as your pupil dialates), the camera aperature could change (especially if it is an automatic camera), the shutter speed could change. For photographic evaluation the best option would be to enhance just 1/2 of a display and then photograph it under varied lighting condition.

    Hmmm, here is a new freebie offer - I will enhance 1/2 of a display for evaluation for free for one person or organization whom agrees to post photos. This requires you have a good camera and some knowledge of photography (ie. you can over and under expose a shot ). I would prefer to do this for a business which may have additional displays enhanced in the future but I will do this for a group or individual if I do not get a business taker for this offer. The display must be a common display which does not already have a DBEF or reflective polarizer installed and be in my opinion fit for enhancement.

    And for you, Defiler, if you are interested I'll enhance your display (or a friend local to you) for half price (I'll lose money), if you agree to post your opinion and a photo (hopefully the marketing value and new business from such will put me back in black). You don't pay if you don't agree there is a significant improvement.

    If interested in this offer please e-mail me at [email protected] or send a private message here on MP3Car.

    Hi guys,

    On the topic of backlighting

    Today i called up 3M and had a chat to a guy in the optics department. He was very helpful and has offered some free samples of the difusers and some anti-glare film.

    Would anyone have any tips for installation into a xenarc lcd?

    If he has included enough , im happy to send some of the samples to other users for testing purposes too.

    Regards
