I can dance on both sides of that fine line I guess... the end results will determine which side of that line I'm standing on with this
it's gotta work..... just hard to know how well at this point... I think she'll be awsome...
I just ordered a nice little high tempature ready water pump for this system & I'm going to use a transmission cooler in the nose of my car as the radiator for this... I'll run waterwet'r through the system...

I got a break today & had to babysit for a few hours.... perfect time to do a little soldering..... just happened to have everything in the truck
they work!!!!! they're pretty bright... after looking at them for a minute of so you start to "see spots".....
at first I was ****ed off because they didn't really seem to get hot.... it was on for 5 minutes & barly warmed the plate... I started to think I wasted my time & effort to water cool these... after 10 minutes they got pretty warm.... after 15 minutes they were hot & by 20 min. the plate was too hot to hold..... I now know the water cooling will be more than adiquate...... can't wait to drop the lcd in front of these to see the results.....

the 1w luxeons that I got are whats called a bat wing design... they project foward, but are a little brighter on an angle... approx. the same angle that the screen is viewed in the car.... these things shold work great.... I have several ideas for diffusers & that may take a little playing with to get the light even with no hot spots ....we'll see...

Wow, if you can get by with no hot spots, this will be amazing.
Depending, and youve probably already answered this, but what do you think would be a pricing for a complete upgrade kit?
I know you wont have exact, but maybe a guesstimate?
2000 Sunfire build 100%, or is it ever really 100%?
I don't really plan on making any kits for this... but I can tell you what i did & wher I sourced the stuff for it,
as far as costs, THAT'S the drawback here..... this is not a cheap way to do this at all..... I looked at all of my alternatives & this was the only way I could go without having extra heat & noise from fans.... if I could have gotten EEFL'S I would have saved a lot & it would have been much less complicated, but not available as of yet.....
total costs for this "upgrade" are a little over a grand..... the initial order of 20 luxeon 1's with dimming power supplies & harness' was around $270, the 1/4" copper plate cut to size was around $120, the two cold plates behind the copper plate were $90 each, the pump I am using for this was around $100, I just ordered 12 more luxeon 1's with another dimming power supply at $150, I still need a radiator which will be an oil/tranny cooler, should be a little under $100, I then need tubing/hoses, fittings, a reservior tank & coolant.... add taps & misc. hardware, stainless steel... you can see this is an expensive project, but it should be awsome when it's done.... I plan on adding the processor to the liquid cooling system to eliminate all fans from my dash...
I started playing with the lcd over this... with no diffusers added, just the diffusers built into the lcd itself, there are hot spots... they show up in photo's more than in person so you can see what I mean.... this photo is next to my laptop, both brightness all the way up...

No offense, but I am just trying to imagine who would pay for a behemoth of a backlight that likely wouldn't fit in our dash for $1000. I for one, would not.
Granted, it's really neat to see for testing purposes, and I don't mean to put a damper on the accomplishments, just providing a reality-check...
