I played with a few diffusers & got this to be much better.... when I fill the dark spots with led's I expect it to be perfect..... & very bright......
I don't think anyone would pay a grand for this... never said that.... I would think no one else would do this really.
this thing don't have to fit in anyone elses dash..... it fits in mine, that's what it was built for?
I do think this could be adapted to a 7" screen which wouldn't be so "behemoth"... it would cost much less & would need a tiny pump.... the end result would be about the size of a double din head unit.... I'm not telling anyone to do it though, what reality check are you talking about?

nice job. It looks really effective. I always say - if you've got the money to spare, why not spend it on what makes you happy/serves a purpose in your life. I'll certainly be checking this thread out again to see how things turn out. Good Luck!
damn that's pretty dope![]()

WORK IN PROGRESS
If you look at my avatar closely, you can see a chick with two big knockers....
well.... by far the hardest part of this whole project has turned out to be the plumbing, or more specifically the sweating of the copper tubing....... this should have been the least of the problems, but is turning into the biggest nightmare ever..... not only is 1/4" elbows & t's a ***** to find....I've been to at least a dozen home depo's & hardware stores.... finally found a lowes that had them... bought all they had & still ran short...... been to a few different lowes.... finally got all the fittings.... that's not the problem....... problem is I can't sweat pipe to save my life!!!!!!! I've been screwing with this part of the project for more than a month now......
I have been trying to do this & frustrating my self to the point that tonight I came really close to flinging this thing across the shop!!!! & belive me , I have a lot of patience!!!! I give up!!!!!!!!
tommorow I'm going to a plumber to sort this mess out..... I don't care what he charges me, I can't take this anymore!!!!
what a nightmare..... once this plumbing is soldered I can mount the screen final & finish it.... hopefully soon.......... this is what this mess looks like so far:

I am trying to use a laptop screen in a car installation.
here is my website with all the information

are you sweating with mapp or propane? you should be fine with propane but map is hotter (I found it much easier). I am no plumber, but i have redone 2 bathrooms and a laundry room, r u heating up the cooper first and then appling the solder? You have to heat it up to that magic point before you kill all the flux and hot enough to melt the solder on contact. It should just "suck in the solder" when it is hot enough.
On joints I screwed up I had to toss them, and start clean. Without fail, joints i tried to "fix" once there was solder stuck on the copper never worked.
My Install
Software:
CFiG v1
iGuidance Plugin for CF
CarShell
Working shell for a CarPC
StopWatch
StopWatch plugin remade for centrafuse RC1
I'm working on it right now......... I figured out the problem..... not enough heat, combined with the connections getting dirty. I went to my plumber kid but he wasn't in today... I called another buddy & he basically yelled at me for not being able to do it, then sent me to his garage to pick up some rods that he used for his central a/c..... this thing is so much copper & aluminium that it disapated the heat to much, I had to really cook these fittings.... I was trying to do them with the leds in & I was trying to not discolor or burn the stainless.... so i wasn't heating it enough, well I was for sweating, but not enough for his welding rods....
now I stripped out the leds & just tourched away.... the rods he has were really nice.... there almost like copper themselves.... they melt in without just running & dripping, even if the connection is dirty.... I think I got it now..... waiting for it to cool, then test if it holds pressure
I actually blew a big 1/4" hole through the tube at one point, but his rods are so awsome that I was able to weld it closed..... this was more like tig welding than sweating, but it seems ok...... we'll see when it cools.......
