You may want to consider what I'm doing. I'm going to replace the entire windsheild with a lcd display. A front mounted camera will show me the road ahead. Ill be using split screen pip for carputer and video screens.

I have an idea: use night vision camera thus you dont need front head lights. you might paint them to match color of your car and/or simply take them off and fill up the empty space with some fibreglass/bondo.

Now that would be a nice project, wouldent it. Wonder what to do if a bird hits your cam on the free way (or it just fails) thou.

Would be quite cool with the night vision =P Driving around at the freeway at full speed at night, without a single light... Wonder what you think if a car without lights passes you in the middle of the night, running at 200+km/h...

I have one and was thinking about lugging it around with me. Just plug it into the carputer under the chair, place it on the roof, and find a white wall to park near and you have your own personal drive in movie! ...and the sound will be so much better lol.

And actually, when I was at Rocky Point last year I saw a big white cargo truck with a car following that had a projector throwing up advertising videos on the back of the truck. It was very weird hehe.

It would be rather cool to drive around like that =P Of course you'll drive a black car, without registrationplates.

All the newspapers and such would try to figure out who you are...

Any advice for someone planning to remove their dash assembly and install a mitsubishi 65" rear projection tv in its place? where should I put the airbags?

So this has virtually nothing to do with the origional thread but i'll go into it anyway.

Plasma has a number of major disadvantages when compaired to other large flat screen displays.

    1) the burn in issue. If you show the same image (for example a basketball scorebox) on a plasma for a long period of time they will burn in like an old crt monitor. They will also dim over time. These two issues have the advertising community running away from them.

2)the color reproduction on all but the very most expensive plasmas is just downright bad and on the best plasma's it's really only just good.

    3) the individual pixels are more likley to fail than in other display types and most manufactures won't do anything to fix a set for you unless you have several (not just one or two) bad pixels.

    4) they generate a lot of heat and consume a lot of electricity.

I think that you will get the best picture from a DLP based rear projection set that uses a Topan screen. Until reciently that had just been the Samsung sets but this year at CES I saw them in several of the other brand's booths.

If you gotta have the thim sexy form factor look at the big LCD's. They have a much better picture quality than plasma without the baggage. They don't get as big as some would like and they are real expensive. Like i said earlier i think the Sharp sets looked fantastic at CES.
