Thread: Sharp LM8V31 7.7" touch screen help

Hi,

I am building a carputer, and I am on a budget, the computer is already built and completed, so I am down to the screen. I wanted something cheap, I took apart my Ceiva picture frame and it had a 7.7" touch screen in it, the brightness and contrast leave a lot to be desired at only at 55nits and 40:1 contrast, but the resolution is 640x480 and all I will be using it for is GPS and navigating songs and play lists. Since I don’t want to pay the $8 per month to use the ceiva frame this LCD was about the cheapest solution for me if it will work.

I guess my questions is whether it is possible to somehow hook this up to a standard VGA video card either through the DB15 connector, svideo, or just plain rca. I know practically nothing about LCD’s but any help would be greatly appreciated. I have the pin assignments the pdf file was to big to post so I scanned some of the pages and they are attached to the post, as well as some pictures of what the screen looks like. It has one 15 pin connector, 1 14 pin connector, then the two wires go to the inverter and there are 4 wires that come out of the inverter. So if anyone has any ideas that would be great.
