I need a list of things i need to complete my carputer

Hello i am new to this forum. I drive a 2005 Scion XB and I am wanting to put a computer in my car. I have an extra computer that i can use. I need to know how i can power the computer as well. I am fairly new when it comes to thi carputer stuff. I will be getting the 7" liliput touchscreen in a little bit, but besides that i need to know what else i need to complete this project.

Thank you in advance for your help!!

    Hello fellow Scion Owner!

I am currently installing a carputer in my Scion.... in fact I am getting ready to start the wiring as we speak.

There is plenty of room in your car for computer things.

I chose the 7" screen so I don't have to modify the dash, whereas the 8" would require some cutting and it is a 4:3 screen vs. the widescreen.

As for your question, it would serve you best to look at some of the newbie threads and specifically the Power supply threads, they will give you a lot of info.

You have a couple of choices on power the inverter or the DC-DC power supply. THe inverter alone would be quick and easy, but not real practical without some sort of controller thing, that I can't seem to remember the name of...

The DC-DC power is my choice. I am running a 90W Opus, but I haven't had a chance to try it out.

The big question will be what type of Computer you are running. You would need to give some specifics about it. ATX, mini-atx, ITX, etc.... CPU, memory..... then do some searches for these items that relate to your particular set-up. Since no two systems area like, there is'nt a definitive answer to your question without more information

Good Luck, if you have any spcific questions, feel free to ask me.

Why don't you read through this board and look at the myriad of ideas that are all being posted, researched or used. Then you can decide what you personally want your carputer to do for you. Then do some more reading and figure out how people have implemented those ideas so far. At that point, if you have problems with your idea or installation, feel free to ask for help. If you make a post like this, you're gonna end up with either a lot of ideas you might not need or a lot of criticism for not doing any research yourself.

    Welcome to the community.

you're going to need some sort of power supply, some way to interface the audio from the computer into the car, and wires. lots of wires...especially depending on where you put everything in the car.
