yeah thats what i was loking at in work today. 7euros each from germany. found em in the UK for £8 at Radio Spares but i am sure i can get them for half that somwhere.

They do 1W and 3W but i am concerend about the heat dissipation.

But you don't need an inverter which is good.

I was thinking 8 of the buggers in this pattern:

X---X---X
--X---X--
X---X---X

and a diffuser. But at 110-140 deg angles they should be pretty well diffused anyway going on the Lambertain intesisty graphs for the high dome lens.

EDIT: ahh i jsut found the 5W ones for £21!!! it says they are 120lumens but the 1W is only 18lumens - not sure how that works!!!

3W is £8 and gives 80 lumens - that seems a better price/performance ratio and using more is better for diffusion and the 3w is easier to cool.

yeah i saw something by Osram like that but smaller. how does lumens relate to cd/m2???

I found some that are 38000 cd/m2 for $10.29 each, much easier to afford there.

yeah but they need an inverter and what is their area provinding 38000cd/m2? got a link to them?

did you say you had a quote for the heater element style CCFL from that other site?
