help with screen power

first off my LCD isnt touch screen, just a screen. do i need constant power to the LCD to keep settings and such? and if so, does it also have a switched power line to tell it when to turn on and off? if not, i have more questions then...thanks guys

It also depends on make, model etc - no one can help at all without that although the best way to find out is to try it and see.

ok...i will know make/model once i get it on thursday...thanks for the super quick response. the main problem i have is that i dont use a car pc therefore no power supply that i can use other than the native 12V and unless i have to i dont want to spend money on one just to power a screen....ill get back to ya thursday

It shouldnt lose the settings if its designed for incar use. It may also come with some kind of 12V regualtor. If it doesnt you can look for a cheap 12V DC regulator for a CD/DVD player that does a botu 1A at 12V (should be able to pick one up for a few $s)
