Is there a seam between two parts of the dash you could separate enough to pass the connector through? You could "notch" out one edge of the seam for the cable itself and just pry the seam open to shove the connector through.
Already Searched.........
I just got my new Xenarc 700tsv and i am mounting it on top of my dashboard. I am mounting in a way that will look very nice, and like it was "supposed to be there".
Well, anyway, since its on top of my dash.....I need to cut some holes for the monitor wires to pass through.....problem is I'm not going to drill and inch diameter hole just to fit a cable through.
So, is there any suggestions? I though about taking the plastic off form around the connector, but noticed that would only shave about 3 mm of.........is there any cables out there that have like a small "quick release" connector on them that are for the Xenarcs? ANY suggestions are appreciated, because I just don't want to have a huge hole in my dash for a tiny cord. Thanks

that should work good just drill a hole the size of the cable so it does not pinch it when u remove the screwdriver or shim or whatever ur using to split it openOriginally Posted by Change
No...I have a 2004 VW GTI and the whole top dash is one single piece...no crevices or cracks......my only option for the wire routing would have to be through the top of the dash...anywhere else would look plain silly![]()
Thanks for the comments....is there any other suggestions?
Thanks again.
Ouch. Can you take a few pics of your dash for us? One straight-on facing the dash, one elevated looking down onto the dash (to see from the edge all the way to the windshield)...might be able to get a few ideas from that.
Yeah......but it'll have to wait until tommrow.....its too dark right now. Thank you guys...and keep ckecking back for the pics.
Not sure how it would reattach, but you could cut a piece out, notch it, place the cable and put the piece back in. For example cut a 1.5" square out of the dash, notch it to the cable size, stick the plug through the 1.5" hole and stick the whole piece back in. May still look messy as you reattach though, I suppose you could cover it with somethng neater if needed...
Just a thought.
Ooh, true, could get one of those dashboard cover things.Originally Posted by ukchris
Hmmmm.... I dunno......the point of the matter is just drilling THAT BIG of a hole is kind of nerve racking.....especially since my dash is one piece and would cost a TON of money to replace if something screwed up...I am thinking that if I do have to drill a hole that big, I will get a rubber grommet the size of the hole I drill...with an INSIDE hole of the grommet being the size of the cord. It would finish it off quite well. Does anyone know if there is an "extender" cable with the xenarc male connector on one end and then the female on the other....with a smaller connector in the middle of the cord? Here's a text pic:

If I had that cable, I could attatch one end to the factory Xenarc cable, drill a hole for the smaller connector, feed that connector through the hole, and then attach the last connector to the Xenarc. Get it?
Thanks for all your help everyone!
Well, no pictures everyone. My camera memory card is broken. Anyone else have any suggestions?
