From what I can tell, the lilliput will not accept a true 800x480 res. I know this sounds dumb, but I don't think the monitor was programmed to accept its own native res. I have tried 4 different video cards and the lilliput won't pick up 800x480. The monitor reports 848x480 which is the closest res that it can find.
I tried ....
Nvidia geforce 2mx 400
Ati radeon 9000
Nvidia TNT 2
Ati 8meg something or other
All of the video cards put out 800x480 successfully, nvidia with their resolution tool and ati using power strip. All 3 of the other monitors in my house displayed that res when looking at the on screen display.
Personally I don't think the lilliput controller board is set up to recognize 800x480. I think lilliput realized that most video cards don't work on this rez and just programmed the basic resolutions into the micro controller onboard.
If you look in the manual you will see a list of the supported resolutions. and 800x480 is not one of them. However, you will see 848x480, which is the res that the majority of people seem to be getting when they give the monitor a 800x480 signal from their video card. 848x480 is also what the monitor reported when I hooked up the various cards to the lilliput at 800x480. What I don't know is if the monitor still displays 800x480 even tho the lcd reports 848x480. I tried various resolutions from 800 - 848 x 480 from the video card, and like the above post mentioned even though the monitor always reported 848x480, 848x480 from the video card did not look the same as 800x480 from the video card. So there must have been some variation that the monitor did pick up in the resolutions. But I can tell you from what I saw, what was displaying was not 800x480 because the picture looked like crap and 640x480 looked better.
I am just going to run 640x480 because that the closest spec to the org res. That is the best resolution I could find on the monitor and it looks pretty clear to me although not perfect. I also don't really think its worth more money for a little bit better picture. Besides most mediacar software has fairly large buttons where you can't tell the difference anyways.
I have an older 9 pin lilliput, maybe the newer ones might detect resolutions differently.
This has been my experience with the monitor thus far.
I guess that's why these monitors are 100 dollars less.
Hope that helps.
