that sucks about your ribbon cable....one problem, & something to keep in mind when working with these delicate lcds is that there really not designed for repeated insertion & removal & there really not designed for repeated flexing.... some of the connectors are only rated for like 10 insertions..... if you play with them too much they can get damaged, no matter how carefull you are, there just not designed for it, there designed to be assembled & that's it... maybe in sevice to be taken apart once or twice.... they never designed them to be repeatedly assembled & disassembled

that's the reason I stopped screwing with mine until the box is done.... I feel like I pushed my luck enough with it already, I've taken it apart & put it back togeather more times than I'd like to think already.... & it would really suck to get it all done & then have something crap out..... my screen is no where near as easy to replace as a lilli....If I toast it it'll cost more than 4 lilli's to replace....I'd probably wind up having to buy another whole laptop & there still close to a grand even on ebay....

How bloody long is this thread!!! Just spent 4 hours reading
Very interesting... but still nothing concrete.

Respect to you for the effort you have put in, although the AU screen looks promising for those of us who aren't limited to space.

This should be great whith miniaturized componsant or 3mm ultra bright LED:

You built this yourself? Does it get hot? Looks good.

Now I know but too late

@coucouillu what kind of LED's did you take? 8000 10000 or 14000mcd? (I'm thinking about 14000mcd with plexiglass to sread the Light.

    thanks for info

    I have not do anything.

I "would like" make my own backlight with SMD LEDs.

I haven't choose the LED yet.
I am loking for supplier with best ratio Quality/Price and which could deliver to France.

I am making a CAD file which could be configured to know how many led we needs in fonction of their angle of diffusion and generate measures.

Please give me all links of ultra bright LED supliers you have

we found the best source to be Hong Kong or USA sellers on egay.

I still dont recomment LEDs for lilliputs and xenarcs though as a 3mm LED is about 5-6mm high, then you have a PCB and the solder joints.

if you go smt then you will not get the brightness and will end up using hundreds and hundreds which ends up costing an arm and a leg.

Be careful choosing high intensity ones as they may have a very low angle. you need to strike the best ratio between brightness, viewing angle and packing density. The greater the angle the less diffusion or distance you will need.

If you look at that LED one above the light distribution is plain awful and I would never use that in a million years.

    So what?

Is the SMD led project good or not?

If somebody else had reflection on it and found it is not good, tell me! I will save money and time.

to be honest I have spend many, many hours looking into an LED solution suing regualar LEDs (non luxeon etc).

    The problems are:

    1. obtaining suitable brightness LEDS
    2. soldering the high number you need
    3. cheap LEDs are not cheap when you need the numbers we are talking about to get round point 1.
    4. you need to get well matched, pure white LEDs or RGB LEDs and adjust them

Try it by all means. There are a lot of nice bright smd LEDs out there but a few back of the envelope calculations will save you wasting a lot of time and energy and money.

thats the reason why I was thinking about plexiglass (kind of plasic) thatwill spread the light, so yoou don't need that many LED's and the light distribution will be better.
how high these will be isn't interesting me, because i will have about 20cm (~4/5") space behind my Xenarc and I got a cheap seller at egay.

maybe the answer is here at the threat, but I haven't found, has anybody tested to spread the light with plexiglas
