theres damaged lillis popping up all the time also, finding one with a good ccfl shouldn't be that difficult

I found a 6.4" lcd that is 800 nit.... I'm going to get one of these..... only drawback with it is it's 640X480....I want to use it as an auxilary screen..... I'll be able to compare this 800 nit with the led screen...... I hope the led screen is as bright as this....

that 6.4" is around $450 with the controller...touch is available, but not included at that price...... looks like a good option as far as bright screens are concerned I think.... maybe a little on the small side as a primary screen, but maybe not so bad either....

Why not reverse engineer your new 800 nit screen so that you can aplly the brightness to existing ones? See how its done and all that...

that is effectively what we are doing. Only we designed the mod and then found out it is exactly the same way as current high brightness leds!!! so we are ont he right track.

You hvae to understand that the real manufacturers have:

    1. the ability to get the right polarizers etc etc made - we dont

    2. Ditto with the diffusers

    3. They can afford to get custom LEDs made as they deal in bulk

    4. They then charge a **** load for their daylight viewable screens - much more than your screen + our kit will cost.

    5. if it ever needs repairing you got a hell of a job and will most liekly have to buy a new screen (thats why i prefer DIY/kits)

EDIT: pic not aimed at you btw, just felt compelled to post it as I just got sent it.

it's a dual bulb setup...... probably uses larger bulbs & is probably a bit thicker than a standard lcd.... like scouse said, I'm sure the polarizers, deflectors & diffusers are optimized, as well as the light guide(s)..... there's nothing to reverse engineer really, basically some part of this setup can be copied(the dual bulb part) the rest your'e on your own.... to take it apart won't do much good, all you'll see is that it is a dual bulb setup..... you can see that by the wires coming out for the two ccfl's......

besides, I'd like to have at least one thing in my car that I didn't have to butcher & modify...... this 800 nit 6.4 may just be that one thing......now what I'll have to do to my dash to accept it is another story, this will take some minor modification...... here we go again........
