I can hardly see it, I recently got my windows tinted really dark and that made hardly any difference. I was thinking about making a "light shield" that clips on my screen to keep the glare down. This looks awesome. Im up for an 8" also. You mentioned under $100 as the final cost, is that still where we are looking?
And one simple question.... if its this easy why dont the manufacturers offer cheap, bright lcds???

Well if the unit survives the heat test and I can find a decent priced inverter, it's still looking under $100 we might be able to make it around $50 but it's still up in the air.

I really dont know why they dont do something like this, i've asked myself the same question.

but I will be doing a test with 15,000mcd LED's after I finish with the CCFL's

duhhhh, poorly worded post on my part. I was thinking of getting a bag of nichia LEDs $85 for a bag of 100 (18000mcd)! I may just wait now to see the outcome of your tests... Good luck and if this works you can count me in for a unit.

Do you know who is the manufacturer on those? At $30 I may buy a bag just to play with. I'd like to see the spec sheet though... From what I've read Nichia is among the best and they had detailed specifications on their led's brightness and color for all to see.

EDIT take a look at this spec sheet. 18000mcd is right in the middle of the range that this particular model can produce. If you get some of the V ranked LEDs they are between 22000 & 31000 mcd.

that is interesting, i'll take a look at those further, only reason I went with the 15,000mcd is that Scouse has a guy at his university that already did a backlight upgrade with LED's of the same mcd. But as we had already figured he has a lot of problems getting the light to be even.

I dont know what the mfg is on my LED's, I will see if I can find the info

No worries, don't waste too much time on it for now. If you get the CCFL upgrade to work for anywhere between $50-$100 you'll be my hero
