I expected that you know!
Not that kind of course! You wouldn't like that to be linked to some kv's, would you?

actually I thought of making our own inverter, I can get the controllers. But the problem is, with the super high startup voltage a custom transformer would have to be created, thus we end up with the same problem as before, a very high cost to develop the transformer and a very high per unit cost.
I just dont think we can attain the level of preformance as a commerical model, too many factors to consider
Have you looked into possibly getting them from countries other than the US and China? Europe and Asia are trying to get/producing more and more electronics parts.
Not found anyone in Europe - so far China & Korea have been the best source for tubes. I did find a place in the UK but I realsied who they got their tubes from and I am not dealing direct with thier supplier as they were not being very helpful (would not do samples and wanted to charge us for a custon inverter) and added their own western sized markup.Originally Posted by integramodder
btw - since there will be hardware dimming:
Is there a possibility to integrate the car's h/u dimmer wire to control the dimming? So when you turn on the headlights it automatically dims to a certain point, and then based on whether you dim the dash lights, it will dim the screen more as well.
I realize that before any of this is even possible the backlight upgrade hardware must be found and workable.
Did I miss the post that asked this question?
Erm the headlight dimming is a good idea. could possibly be implemented. We are planning on using a photocell though so the dimming is gradual and keeps the screen bright enough to see over the ambient light level. One way I think the connection to the car dimming lead would be as a backup to stop the screen going above a certain level when the lights are on but to be honest I sometimes have my lights on at dusk when the sun is low and in people eyes to help people spot my car. You might still have strong sunlight hitting the screen depending on where the sun is.
definitely worth considering though.
I was thinking of adding a feature like this into the project, I am also going to try to add a feature suggested by Andy, which would allow us to adjust the auto dimming curve, so that way you can customize it to your likes.
What is the status of the project at the moment, waiting for the inverter or looking for inverters ?
