which wires for this touch screen monitor

Hi guys

done a search for the past hour but can't find the exact answer to my question and hoping to get a quick answer as going to install the thing in the next hour :-)

I bought a Gain 7" Montor http://linitx.com/product_info.php?products_id=685

It looks easy enough to fit (apart from mounting in the dash) I just wanted to check the wiring as there are no instructions !

It has 3 wires on the back, Yellow, Red and Black. Obviously black is negative, which way round are the other 2 ? I assume one is constant power and the other ignition ?

I was going to wire this into the car battery. I have read mixed results but I recon it would be fine. If I did go to wire it into the psu where would I connect the above 3 wires ?

i.e. how would I wire them into the molex plug ?

Usually:

Yellow= Constant (BATT) 12V
Red=Accessory (Ignition switch) 12V
Black=GND (Ground)

For testing, you could tie the red & yellow together on the head unit and connect to a standard CPU PS yellow on the molex (12v+) and obviously black to black.

I can't imagine why that wouldn't work.

Please let me know what you think of that unit, I'm eyeballing that one (because it swivels) and the motorized one made by "god knows who" (sold here at MP3car.com

would it matter if the yellow and red were round the wrong way ?

wouldnt it just mean that it would loose its power when you switched off the ignition ?

I will let you know what the screen is like once I put it in.

My first impressions are not too good though to be honest.

I bought it from linitx last week and it arrived broken. The screen had a big crack down it. This left me to think how solid is the machine if it broke on its way ? I also noticed that there was a bit of glue on the top of the screen where the open button is. I thought it looke a little rough made.

Anyway linitx swapped the unit very quickly and without any trouble. Pitty they didnt sort me out with the £15 price difference as it dropped £15 the day after I bought it !

Anyway the new one which arrived was a bit bette quality, no glue showing but I am still a little bit scared to touch it incase it breaks !

I have tried to install it into the double din in my car, but I don't know how to mount it as there are no screws supplied with it (or instructions) I bought 3 different packs of screws but neither fit. If they did I think they would be too long anway. So I have had to resort to gaffer taping it to the cage. Which I don't think is very good.

It also sticks out quite a bit when fitted in place so now I am going to have to spend some more money on security so it doest get stolen.

I expected a lot more for a £400 monitor.

I think I am going to give up installation of this monitor and go back to the lilliput and conisder a flush fit.

To be able to use this gain monitor I recon I would need to have it sticking out about 2 inches plus, this is so that when the screen is out it is tilted slightly backwards so you can see it.

Also I noticed that you said it swivels left and right, well I dont think mine does ?!?

Inverting yellow+red will not damage the unit, but it will not allow it to function correctly (If it has a clock or any memory functions, they will not be retained)

I'm getting the feeling the unit is junk.
I await your next update.

Oh, and to get the correct style screws for installing into most DIN brackets, find a local car stereo shop and ask them if they have any screws left over from head unit installs, I know when I was doing it professionally, I had drawers of screws from lots of installs gone by (Many used the bent-tab cage and the screws were left over) to this day, I probably have 40 screws that may be the right size.

But if your going to pitch the unit, I guess it really doesn't matter.

your right it does tilt left and right

I am too scared to touch the monitor due to the first one ariving damaged. Linitx swapped it no questions asked (although I had to pay the return postage)

The monitor build quality is cheap and in my opinion not worth nearly £400

Its bigger than din size so overhangs onto the headunit below.

There were now wiring instructions to install it

There were no screws so had to buy a selection from B&Q and none would fit as they were too long. Even so the holes in the side don't match up to the stereo cage to wire it in !

The biggest problem is that is sticks out about 2 inches in the dash and looks plain stupid.
