how to wire lilliput into a molex

    Hi guys

can you please give me some advice

I have a lilliput touch screen monitor and want to cut the cigarette lighter plug off and attach the wires to a Molex connection which runs to my psu.

when my carputer turns on the monitor will get power, how do I do this ?

    Cheers

Doing some would do you some good, but here is your answer. The Lilli runs on 12v so all you need to do is to tap into a 12v wire from the PSU to one of the Molex connectors and do the same for ground. If I remember correctly of the 4 wires that go to the molex connector, the red is 5v the 2 black are ground and the yellow is 12v. The easiest way probably is to get the vampire clamps from the ratshack or any auto parts store (ie. AutoZone, PepBoys). on the lilli side, if i remember correctly, the white striped wire is the 12v and the solid black is ground.

    thanks for the replies

I did do a search but couldnt find the answer I was after.

I am in the UK so don't have those shops here. If I cut the littliput wire, will I only have 2 wires a positive and earth ?

Is the white stripped one deffo positive ?

Will I still need to use the 'egg' regulator thing ?

    cheers

Yes, there will only be 2 wires. I'm not completely sure about the coloring but if you have a multimeter it will be easy to find out. I am almost sure that I found the color coding of the wires somewhere here in the forums, check the "all you need to know about the lilliput" thread.

as hanzacra posted... if you connect it to your PSU on a molex it should be regulated already so you don't need the egg, if you are hooking it up to any other 12v source I would keep the egg. What PSU are you using?

What fuse holder, and fuse type, do you use for this? Im actually running a Xenarc 700 TSV. I assume the fuse needs to be closer to one end of the cable, but not sure which one

ABout to wire the Xenarc... would like some pointers regarding the FUSE. What size fuse to use, and also what type fuse holder you suggest?

same model, i use 10 amp... you go buy a fuse holder at autozone or something, they have them, they go right inline... you should solder it inline!
