If your video card doesn't have Video out or S-Video (better) out, buy one of those small box use for presentation. Something called TView or similar. Price from $65 to $300.

Or better search the web or google for VGA To Video converter.

Just don't come back here couple week later and said "I should of listen to you guys."

    Cheap screen: $120

Cheap screen + replacement Lilliput because the cheap screen sux: $120 + $270.

You're going to pay $120 to torture yourself.

But, if you "don't care if you won't be happy with it", then by all means buy one. And then make sure you power it with an ITPS. Only $40. And only pay for 128k of memory. It will be cheaper.

That should save you some money and still get a car PC in your car.

you really should listen to advice, its not like they are trying to get you to spend more money, they are trying to save you money, time and frustration.

Try hooking up your computer up to your TV. I am sure it is much larger than your planned screen, but I bet you will have a hard time reading the text on the screen.

Sony will sale you a special adapter that will convert the signal to HD. I bought one for my Atari 2600. Sadly they do not have an adapter for a Commodore64 yet, mid 2006 release.

hmm maybe the above post was sarcastic. if it was that's funny.. but if not:
of course it won't look any better.. and upsampling anything only makes smoother lines.

example, take a 720x480 image in photoshop .. no scale it to 1080 by whatever.. notice how it just kinda gets fuzzy.. not "better" ..

this is what I meant by my original psot about folks buying HD tv's, and bragging how they can whatch all their DVD's in HD now. right now the highest avaliable digital sotrage media that is/was in mass production is laserdisc, it's slightly higher than DVD .. and you cna buy old laser disc movies cheap at 1/2 price books ..

but anyway, buy the RCA screen, get a scanline converter, Tview Micro makes one, and it may be just what you want. I've found s-video is night and day difference also.. I can read text on my TV 800x600 with s-video.. but no VGA .. I used to play command and conquer on my TV with it.. ohh the days.. but for $80 you can get a VGA touch, no converter, and we'll respect you more :-)...

I do use a RCA screen for my secondary monitor.. but it's mainly for video, for the kids..

I jsut got an e85 conversion kit for my Audi 1.8t, it's very cool, and saves me money! e85 conversion kit

the reason i don't care is because i'm selling the car...it would be the only car where i live with something like that in the car, and people said they'd pay me more for it...i don't wanna spend a **** load of money or making something really nice for something I'm not gonna keep...thats the whole logic behind what i'm doing.

So you're selling it with the CarPC as a selling point? I guess you're not concerned about them coming back to you and telling you it's almost unusable?

The video card with composite output is your best bet, otherwise you need a converter, which usually runs about $100-$200, I believe.
