    Post LCD display from laptop

    I have a NEC VERSA2430cd laptop that has a fried CPU. NEC quoted me 1500 bux for a new P133 cpu..mmmmmm decisions decisions... AS if im going to buy that, so i have a useless laptop and i was just thinking is it possible to use the LCD on a in car mp3 player? the screen is 12 inch TFT high res.
    anyone know?

    also go search on ebay, you can get cheap replacement laptop parts there.

    check out earthlcd or flat-panel to see what they can offer, but you're going to need to take the screen apart to see exactly what it is so that you know what you're dealing with.

    And yes, the search button here will be your friend, there have already been many many discussions about this. Hats off to Skinny for having the self restraint not to tear a strip off you as I have seen many others do

    ok i may be completly wrong , but i am absolulty sure you can drive a laptop lcd from a vga output , and without to much hassle.i am sure i read about this 3 or 4 months ago , go to google , google know all.

    You *cannot* run an LCD by just plugging it into a VGA card, because there is no controller to interpret the VGA signals.

    It's like saying "I have a cathode ray tube, I can just plug it into my TV cable and get TV, right?" ... No, of course not. The LCD is just a display screen. You need to get the control circuitry to either interpret VGA signals or extend a digital interface directly to the PC. You can get control circuitry that also interprets standard NTSC or PAL signals as well, but in any case you need some control circuitry, and it's usually not that cheap.
