    Angry 4x20 problems...ergh

First off, I searched past messages for this problem to no avail..

All right, turned out that hat 4x20 L2014 I got from was EIO.com was defective...which is very rare, according to them...but since the guys over at eio rock SO hard, they sent me a replacement for free.

So I hooked it up using the schematics on their site, I even got the two rows of blocks (which means everything is hooked up right..woohoo!)...

    I used lcdprint.exe to check the lcd...lcdprint 378 shows:

    Standard Parallel Port detected
    BPP Mode supported
    LCD panel detected.

"lcdprint 378 4 20 test.txt" which just kicks me back to the command prompt with no other comments on screen...(which I take to mean it worked.. or it thinks it worked..)

But I get NO change on the solid bars of blocks...any thoughts?

Make sure the test.txt is next to the lcdprint.exe
In holland we mean in the same "map" don't know in English
    must be something like this:

    C:\lcdprint.exe
and for the text goes the same
    C:\test.txt

they must be in the same Directory

Also, only test it with a windows 9x machine... I don't know about WinMe though. Anything NT based shouldn't allow communication through the ports.

This may be plainly obvious, but "test.txt" actually has to have text in it.

I hope you already knew that...

Heh, thanks for the help, but its a Windows 98 machine, the test.txt does have text in it, and it is in the same directory.

    Any other ideas?

I recently replaced the matrix orbital 20X4 LCD with the same LCD you got from eio and I got it to work without problems, I think your bios setting is wrong too.. make sure it's ECP and the command of lcdprint should be:
    lcdprint 378 20 4 text.txt, and not 4 20 like you typed.

Nope...I have it set for ECP..and the same thing happens if I switch the 20 and 4.

I just can't figure it out because it *knows* the lcd is there and *thinks* it is sending output to it...but it's not. ergh.

    HALLELUJAH!!!!

Remember boys and girls, no matter how many times you check your wiring, check it again. Corrected *ONE* connection that was loose...and voila: The world is right again.
