Hi.
I did the lights-on mod around a week ago by following the instructions on http://www.digitalww.com/DWW700M_buttons.html.
The boards seem tiny and very fiddly but in actual fact they aren't too hard to manipulate. I did it on the kitchen draining board (with the drain plug in and the other-half & kids out).
I used a stanley knife to cut the tracks, they are surprisingly tough. I cut the track you mention http://digitalww.com/images/700M-buttons_12.jpg just on the white line in the picture.
The unit now remains off (and dark!) until the open/close button is pressed, either on the unit or the remote.
