Thumbs up Via releases beta BIOS update for 800x480!

Mini-ITX owners rejoice (well, at least some of you). Via in conjunction with Xenarc have been working on a BIOS update that supports the native resolution of the 7 inch series of Xenarc monitors. The fruits of this collaboration are now available for testing.

    Here are the requirements:

Only works on boards that use the CLE266 chipset.
Should not require video driver changes, once the BIOS update takes place, the 800x480 should be available in the display properties.

If you have any bug reports on after flashing the update,PM me and I will forward them to the folks at Via. I am witholding the Via contact at this point so he can focus on the bug reports ppl send me rather than getting flooded by n00bs asking how to flash a BIOS...

BTW, if you don't know how to use these BIN flash updates, see

    http://www.viaembedded.com/download/index.jsp

You can download the Beta BIOS here:

Remember, this is a beta build of the BIOS, so use at your own risk. It has been tested by several people internally at Via, so it has been loaded on systems and verified to work by them in thier labs.

What is the diference between your bios rom and the one posted in this thread:

    Finally somebody with the bios/driver

Because the problem is not the 800x480 option in the display properties but the screens that don't lock in the refresh #

    The difference is...

One is official from the manufacturer who makes the hardware, one is a hacked build to try and get it to work with no support from Via, and no guarantees from anyone.

    Guesses

Perhaps its a later build, perhaps its from a different group/developer at Via. I got no straight answers cause I don't know the origin and process behind the build you are asking about.

I can tell you that the one I am presenting is based on collaboration between Xenarc and Via working together to get an update that supports the 7 inch screens that Xenarc makes.

I don't know much about the version your presenting, but I can tell you the one I am posting is going through official escalation and code change channels and they are presently requesting beta feedback on it. The other one I have no idea on it.

If you have used the other version and you were not able to get the refresh fixed, try this one and then see if its still there, and if so let me know and I will let Via know.

btw, shaddup, I will edit all I want... I am older than your mom, so don't tell me how to roll :|

Which board is this file designed for? I was under the impression that a bios file for an EpiaM10k would not work on epiaMIIs or any other board different than the board the file is designed for.
    Carputer installed!!!
Nlited XP+Minlogon, EpiaM10k, 512mb, Seagate 40 gig 2.5" HD, FM Dlink usb radio, DWL122 USB Wifi, XMD1000 tuner, PT5071 6 amp regulator, Xenarc 700TSV, and 1 ikea key box.

Last time that "we made" the other rom I have to incorporate the VGA block to make work in the MII 12K

Just looking a the file name .17 I will say is for M1K only (.16 is the current ver) because the MII 12K bios # is .35
