The 100 is a 100 Ohm
And it's true if you use a 5k or a 2k5 you have more controlle with the contrast same goes for the backlight.
You only have about 25% controlle with the 100 Ohm and the 10K.

According to the above schematic, there should be a 10K pot, pictured just above and to the left of the ground connection. Above and to the right of the ground connection there is another item, labeled as merely "100". Is this a 100 Ohm Pot, 100K Ohm Pot, 100 something else?
Please let me know, and correct me if I am wrong on the 10K pot as well. Also I've heard rumor that a 5K pot works better in place of the 10K, is this correct? What should I use where? Thank you.
