My screen is now making a clicking/snapping sound when I turn on the power to the car and when it reaches 90 degrees.. It also will not always go past 90 degrees now either..

I expect to be replacing a gear really soon.

Well, I can't speak for the majority, but the monitor I got from yukki has worked fine so far (knocks on wood). I really wish I had bought a transreflective display. Oh well, during the next build I will upgrade.

These screens are garbage. I brought one and it failed within 3 weeks. Seller doesn't want to know about me, which suggests to me it's a common problem.

Problem I have is were it opens up as usual, starts to display the vga signal, then the screen goes brighter and brighter, before it just switches the screen off. It then can either retract the screen or just stays blank. Usually if you retract the screen and bring it back after this, it'll do the same thing, but it'll usually lock the unit up in that the screen no longer goes in and out. I have to pull the radio fuse after this happens to get the unit to reset.

Has anyone been able to pull the unit apart and repair it? If not I'm going to pull my one apart and have a poke around, seeing as a warranty claim is going to be a complete waste of time.

Here is some pics of it working (when it worked it was a good unit),

I have a feeling they don't like voltage spikes. Basically they are not automotive certified. I think if they are hooked up to a 12v regulated power supply from a PSU, they might actually last.

    Note the box,

11.5v-13v working range. That's not automotive range. I know my vehicle runs between 13.5v and 14.5v, depending if its idling or got some revs on the engine. A good automotive range would be 11.5V to 24v. Why you would make a indash display for cars that is not in range is ****ing the dumbest thing ever. I should have taken more notice of the box and hooked it up to m2-atx PSU power supply.

    short-circuit.com

hey guys, getting my re-re-install closer to being finished . thing is now i need to replace my 8" lilli with a nice in-dash. i was going to go for the DWW-700H but saw a few bad reviews on it. it's still an option. I'm looking more at this monitor but wont buy it from ebay. i found this store that looks like its located in the bay area here in california http://www.short-circuit.com/details...rs/vmi70a.html .

here is the warranty info on their site:

"All warranties are void outside the US.

Most of our products carry a 1-year manufacturer's limited warranty. We will gladly exchange the product within the warranty period. The warranty is void if there is evidence of misuse or modification by the customer.

For US customers only, we carry a 14-day money back guarantee (not including shipping) on any purchase."

looks good to me, what do you guys think? anyone heard of this short-circuit store? i looked on ebay and they have an ebay store with http://myworld.ebay.com/321short-circuit/ 1973 Feedback with 99.9% Positive.

Jampac, I just started having the SAME EXACT problem. I turn it on, the image comes on for like 2 seconds, then flickers and goes off. The screen either goes blank, or the screeen retracts. My first guess is that some internal connector came loose. Maybe something came unsoldered? Let me know it you figure anything out.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you guys that owned these had them wired to your PSU? Ive gone through 2 of these in about 3 and half weeks. I had both wired with the "egg" that comes with it.

The sellers a cool guy(short-circuit, Carl Limisko) and replaced the first one, but I gave in to temptation on the second one and opened it hoping to find something burnt. In any case, $275 later and I need a new screen.

Point is, if these dont burn the hell up hooked to a PSU, im willing to give it another shot. It really was a sweet unit when it worked. Anyone ever find out whats actually failing when they do this?

    Thanks

    Same thing

So I suppose I was lucky that my screen lasted me a month. I also received this screen from ebay and I loved it when it worked. The screen will stay on for only a few seconds now and then start to get fuzzy and shuts it self off. I thought it may be a power issue so I decided I would route the wiring to my Carnetix 1900 instead to see if that would help. Turns out that I wasted my time and it did nothing to help the screen. I think I am going to pull it out of the car and plug it into my ac/dc converter and see what happens. I hope that it is not dead.
