I've spent the last 3 days on this forum looking stuff up. I've lived in the FAQ lists and the search button may have melted from overuse. I have a laptop that I don't use, a 700W power inverter, gps software, and a need to do something interesting. I don't want to do a full in dash install (I want to keep the stock look), so my plan is to utilize the dash tray right above the radio and mount a screen in there. My issue is with the screen dimensions. For the tray (if you're looking at the dash) I have 7/8"H, 5 5/16"W, and 6"D (pretty sure I can modify that to get further in, not a problem). I'll probably end up with one of the eBay screens that everybody's going crazy over unless I can buy one off of a forum member.
My Question is if I can find the monitor itself with the proper depth (7/8"), would I be able to mount that in there without the shroud? I'm concerned about the plugs (I'm no electrical engineer...but my wife is! Hmm...) as I'd like it to still be an easy plug and play how would you control it without the buttons? This may all be a mute point if there isn't a 7/8" deep touchscreen available but any help would be most appreciated.
Alright, Little update. I found this which has the correct dimensions. My question now is...what the hell is it? Is it just a disassembled 7" touchscreen? It seems a bit pricy to just be that. I'm so lost...
I'm beginning to think that buying a gooseneck mount is the way to go. TIA
