Thread: 6.4" VGA vs 6.8" NTSC

you cannot read text on a ntsc input monitor. i tried. if you've got the money go with the vga.

Someone else suggested the same thing. If I consider the cost of buying the $400 TFT + $130 Vid card, I might as well spend the extra $170 on the SVGA. I've heard only good things about it. Thanks.

I would definitely go with VGA alternative if money were no concern to you. The picture is much clearer, crisper, nicer, and text is easer digest. You can play DVD and use GPS with quite remarkable results. Simply, there is no comparison. Most people stick with NTSC alternative because they think that they are getting a good deal for the money. Well, they are not.

Finally, here is my advice-- stay away from these people at www.flat-panel.com. They are not customer-oriented business. They don’t have good, solid, customer based personnel. Frankly, I don’t think they really care.

In the past, I have sent them 4+ messages. They didn’t even responded to me. They are extremely lousy in handling and answering electronic mail. Sometimes, their responses are not complete and honest. You have to ask them twice to get proper response. In addition, if they don’t like the way you ask questions, they won’t even respond back to you. Therefore, you feel like a jerk sitting and waiting for the answer. There are plenty of other companies willing to do business with you. Be careful!

the vga 6.4 " is only 200 nit......as far as I am concerned....you won't be able to see much during daytime...please correct me if I am wrong.
I have 5.6" NTSC on my dash and I can see all the fonts fine. ...maybe too brighJust blow up the fonts on winamp and windoze...for GPS, I use travroute copilot 2001 and it has NICE BIG fonts....perfect for small screens. My next upgrade will probably be to a 6.4" in dash.

I wish I had another choice other than flat-panel.com. I totally know what you mean about their lack of customer service. They NEVER return emails. No body beats their price on that particular kit though. As for the screen being 200 nit, that's pretty high. The screen is rated for industrial, outdoor use. Most laptop LCDs are 70 nit so I figure I ought to be able to see fine with 200. Thanks everyone.

You can try G-net @ http://www.carlcds.com . They're up in Canada but their prices are decent on some of the screens. I'm going with the 6.8" TFT display. Even after the Canadian/US conversion it's only $420. Not bad. They also carry VGA displays.

I'm sorry, but their prices are NOT decent. You can get a 6.8" TFT for way less than that. As for their 6.5 VGA. The same kit is $300 more at the place. I would seriously look around before pay those prices. I'll leave you with some links you can check out.

Actually $395 for a 6.8" with remote and case at g-net is pretty darn good

OK. That sounds like a better price. You said $420 your first reply, but the second price you gave me doesn't sound that bad. That 6.5 VGA I was looking at is still a lot more at g-net. That's too bad because I hear people at flat-panel.com are assholes.
