That's a nice setup, Mav. I thought about the i/r setup. I like the fact you don't need a keyboard and you can install the eye in the display. Sweet!
The thing that's really got me hung up now is the damn display. How can I get a workable display just big enough to be able to choose mp3,directories, or drives, like using Winamp on your desktop PC? That's all I want. I don't want to run movies or anything else. I can't disable the onboard video on this Digital Celebris 590 I've got. So, I think I'm going to use that VGA/LCD convertor, like you have up on Ebay, and hook a 5" or 6.5" to it. I can prob'ly open up the converter and install it inside the Mp3truckbox, running a small homemade vga cable from the vga out port to the convertor. Then run some cabling containing the IR and LCD wiring. Sounds like a plan! :D

I am just now getting ready to put my comp in my truck, but I have been using Girder for a long time. I think Girder works the same as Ir Assistant. I have it set up so that I can change playlists and utilize it with the Car Mp3 Keyboard Plugin for Winamp (lets me press a button the number of the song and the button again to go strait to a particular song). I also use it to control the DFX plugin and everything else. If you don't have enough buttons on your remote, you can choose one button to switch options.

Well Tony it sounds like you have everything planned out. You can set Winamp as your shell instead of explorer and it will load a LOT faster, since that is all you want to use. That size lcd should be fine for just Winamp.
Good luck!

Thanks for the support, Mav. While working hard last night ;) I checked out some of the MP3 cars on MP3Car.com that I missed before. One guy had some really nice shots of the 5" LCD and judging by that, I think it'll do the trick. If not, I buy a 20" LCD screen and hang it in front of the back window. :D
