bookpc tv-out dead
A few days ago I was using my BookPC (the i810 based one) with my 5.6" NTSC LCD. It worked fine with no odd behavior. Parked the car, unclipped the LCD, unplugged the video and power cables and popped it under my seat, as I regularly do (and have done dozens of times).
Come back a few days later, attach the cables and LCD. Turn on the system. Blank screen. Thought at first that the system wasn't booting, but it works -- plays music just fine. THe problem is nothing is being displayed to the LCD.
Some testing showed that the system is always displaying to the vga monitor, when it is supposed to (and always has in the past) displayed to the LCD when something is hooked up to tv-out and nothing on the monitor port.
WindowsME no longer sees the Chrontel tv-out chip.
I don't know what happened. One day it worked, another day it didn't. I tend to think it's a hardware/BIOS problem, as normally I can see the BIOS on the LCD, i.e. long before Windows gets to start interefering.
I tried flashing to the latest BIOS and resetting all my settings to default, but it didn't help at all.
Any suggestions, or am I stuck?
If I have to get a new one, I was thinking of getting the new msi bookpc like thing, with serial port, firewire and pci slot.. but I need two serial ports and if this one is busted, I don't think I trust bookpcs anymore.
Anyone wanna recommend a good small motherboard so I can build my next machine?

Are you sure you selected on the video settings to display the image on TV?. I have the same TV decoder, a Chrontel 7005 and i know it won´t display nothing, except in DOS (win ME no DOS).
Another thing: The Chrontel chip has an auto-detect TV/LCD feature, so maybe on that day the LCD wasn´t really well connect and switched off the TV-Out. Maybe.

I dont think that will help. I know quite a few ppl that the same thing happend to. Most of them were lucky their box was still underwarranty (i hope yours is) and they returned it for another. Also I have noticed this happens alot with the first generation BookPC. By anychance is yours one of those first generations, also is it still under warranty?

I'm sure about the settings. The thing is busted. Did a lot of testing.
It's under warranty and it is a first gen. The place I got it from doesn't have that model in stock anymore, so they'll probably upgrade me to the MSI unit with firewire/serial/pci slot.
It's going to be a pain in the *** for me though, as my wallet was stolen and some *** charged up $3000+ on it, so now I have to wait for my new cards to arrive.
