    Lightbulb PanelLink receiver card

    Hi all,

After a long search I found a company that sells the PanelLink DVI receiver card for those LCD out video cards. Miles Industrial Electronics. For about USD$150 I got the card, 5 meter cable to PC and cable to panel, and shipping to the US. Seems pretty good to me! They are quite helpful too. I haven't received it yet, but I will let you all know how well it works.

    Question

Is this a controller card or does it have some other function?

This is a controller card. It takes the TMDS signal present on almost all new LCD video cards, and converts it into a signal the flat panel can use to display the image. The digital signal is far superior to analog VGA, because there is no signal degredation in the ~15 feet needed for a car situation. Also it stays in the digital domain, and is never converted to analog. The card probably works with pretty much any LCD monitor, it is configurable with dip switches. It will just plug in to the two LCDs I have here, both 6-bit digital RGB.

I also found a PanelLink transmitter card for my Intel 815EFVL board for sale at AvNet and Arrow. It is made by Molex, and costs USD$53. This allows me to use my micro-ATX Intel motherboard for the LCD out, without having a seperate card for LCD. Maybe a little more expensive than a seperate card, but cleaner IMHO.

Should put my composite TV-out to shame!!
