Post LCD not working (this is different then the normal)

    I got a 4x40 lcd,
The first time I hooked it up, only stuff would display on the first two lines,
Then I unsoldered it and hooked it up again, and did it wrong, and ended up applying +5volts to the wrong line (not good, I know)
So I redid it, and it still boots and displays boxes on the first and 3rd lines, but I can't get anything to display, even just using lcdprint in dos.
    Any help would be great.

    Well the schematic is oke.
have you tried to adjust the backlight and the contrast. Because mine is just showing bloks on the 1e and 3e line when i set the contrast to dark.

Istrunk: you probably burned out a controller (or two). I have done that same thing, and while the backlight works fine....controllers won't

Does that mean I blew the whole lcd?
If so, that really blows, cause I really wanted a 4x40 lcd, escpecially since this one was free ;-)
